The CWCki forums did a fundraiser after the fire, didn't they? It would be just $65, maybe plus travel expenses to get him there.

If Chris goes to meet Dr. Granin, I hope he behaves himself.
God only knows what embarrassing and self-serving questions he would pester her with during the Q&A.
I don't see why he wouldn't behave. We know Chris is a social mess but that doesn't mean his going to be rude and call attention towards him on purpose.
I do believe (if he attends), it might go something like this:
- He'll just arrive and grab a sit as far as possible from all the people present but trying to be close enough so he can hear and watch the conference.
- Play some vidya until the show starts
- Listen to Dr. Temple conference
- Keep quiet and to himself *most* of the time
- Questions and comment time (I doubt Chris would ask anything in public and would rather try for a more personal approach when the conference is over)
- Conference is over
* Dr. Temple talks with some people and then leaves - Chris couldn't see or talk to her but it's fine, he enjoyed the conference*
- Go back home
- Brag in Facebook how deep the conference was and how he's going to destroy autism in Smash.

If she's an inspiration to him, shouldn't she have, you know, inspired him to do something? Like learning to manage and live around his disorder rather than using it as an excuse and demanding the world bend to him? Or using his focus and interests to form a meaningful career?

Actually, Chris would probably be bored out of his mind at this conference. It looks like it's mostly about special strategies for educating people with autism. You know, that stuff Borb made sure was entirely avoided in his upbringing.

Temple Grandin is a class act lady. I've actually read one of her books she co-authored with someone else, very enlightening. For those who don't know, her autistic obsession, though I wouldn't say it's an obsession as more of a focus, is on humane cattle raising methods. Like she figured out a more humane way to herd cattle to be slaughtered that would be less stressful for the cattle and make it easier for the ranch hands to manage them. Guess her autism wasn't a mental block for her. She of course does a lot of stuff about autism and she was one of the first people who was able to prove that just because you had autism doesn't mean you had to spend the rest of your life in an institution.

I think she's into the idea of neurodiversity, she thinks that having autism can be beneficial so Chris might flip out if he finds that out.

I hope to meet her someday too, myself.

Ooooohhhh I am a huge Temple fangirl, if such a thing exists. Check out her other books champthom, even the audiobooks are done well. Also her TED talk!

I've actually wondered what she would think of Chris if she ever met him, but moreso what she would think of his upbringing. She herself was not mainstreamed, as it were, really until college but once she found her passion, man, she's really changed the way we handle and understand livestock and offers so much insight into neuro diversity.

Honestly, I'd front Chris the money to go. The odds of them having a chance to really connect one on one are slim, but I've thought that she might be a really positive influence in his life because she's in the autism trenches and really making something out of it, in a good way.

I've read a couple of her books, including Thinking in Pictures. She's an amazing lady and her contributions to the cattle industry have certainly been beneficial.

I hope that Chris does have the opportunity to see her speak.
