Holy fuck I forgot about this mess of a forum for the longest time. I guess it wasn't just me that thought they were a bunch of ban-happy trogs with a tungsten rod up their asses.

I remember back in I think it was '14 how I tried my hand at the site and never could figure out what the draw to that fuckhole was. I ended up perma'd there because I literally asked staff to ban me so that I'd never go back.

The TF2 subforum in particular was especially cancerous, and begs the question overall how there isn't a Community Watch thread for the Team Fortress fanbase. Half tempted to do some digging and make said thread myself.

It was relatively benign compared to to some of the gaming megathreads and super threads in fast threads. Paradise on earth compared to whatever was in Rust and GMF.

Knockout wants to abolish internet freedom, and internet anonymity. Somebody points out how this whole story is suspect and defends internet freedom? Gets dumbed to oblivion.

This thread was revived to decry cloudfare and equate KF to Stormfront and Jihadis.

Comparing doxxing to the government abolishing pseudonyms and literally requiring people to have an internet license.

I don't really post here, but I fucking hated what that place became. I'm happy to burn my bridge.

Why was this guy banned? People are starting to get banned left right and center on KO nowadays.

I suspect that alt/gimmick is just shortened to gimmick. Is it possible that they're purging people as some paranoid response to this thread? I guess, but I don't think people actually care about this thread that much.

I played Garry's Mod to death back in 2008-2011 and I remember going on Facepunch to try and solve complicated LUA code problems, all I found though were mountains of threads of people being irrationally rude to each other. They had a section for Gmod coding and mapping but for some reason they had this weird attitude towards helping people and they treated LUA coding and Source mapping as this closely guarded secret. If you asked for any kind of help you would get nothing but sarcastic replies and people writing a paragraph about how you should "learn to code". Even if your question was incredibly basic you would never get any help with anything and everyone on there was super elitist.

So that was my only experience with Facepunch, It was probably one of the least helpful forums I've ever seen and in terms of 'discussion' there was none. I honestly don't know what attracts people to a forum that's more irrationally divided than Reddit.

Facepunch had a reputation (even among its own users) for being very elitist. They were a gigantic general purpose old-school forum that was always trying to define themselves as better than places like 4chan, reddit, or SomethingAwful (to tell you how highly people thought of Facepunch, it was commonly referred to as a discount SA). Lots of subforums on Facepunch were very insular and would get mad when someone broke the circlejerk. There was also a lot of offsite groups and cliques that formed. I never went into the Source modding subforums but since Facepunch for a lot of games was the modding site there was probably a bunch of big-name people with egos and a bunch of people trying to act cool to suck up.

Facepunch also had this system where rules were ad-hoc and not written down, and where violations of those would result in short term bans which took the place of warnings. People on Facepunch sung their praises about this system and used it as a point of pride differentiating themselves from other forums. Bans were also public in red text, tracked in a big ticker and added to an event log for each person. People justified it as being a way to make examples out of others.

Granted, not all of Facepunch was a bunch of elitist circlejerkers (I loved the gaming threads), but there were large pockets of the site that were.

So was there any proof or punctual examples of grooming in Facepunch/Knockout? It is a topic everyone seems to know about but is only mentioned in passing and never discussed. I've asked a former user and he did aknowledge it but never gave me any examples and when Knockout users discussed about Garry reviving facepunch it appears someone in that thread mentioned grooming/pedophiles since a mod appeared and went "let's not throw accusations of pedophilia, keep it civil".
I DO know that individuals like Jessecar/Jesse Cardone (owner of a network of source game trading/raffle websites who was accused of grooming teens) were users in Facepunch, yet I can't seem to find more cases. I doubt that if the accusations of Facepunch/Knockout hosting pedos were mere slander the mod team would be so quick to delete and bury any mention of it.

I do agree on the last bit, not everyone was a massive elitist, met plenty of cool people there to play TF2 with, but the ones deep into circlejerks and/or had other users constantly fellating them (like most mods, users like Inacio) were insuferable since their attitude was "I'm better and more important than you".

Edit: I don't think I've mentioned this already but isn't it funny how the site that onced bullied trannies and furries ended up being ran by them?

Perhaps there's some offsite or oldfag stuff that I don't remember, but the closest thing I can think of was "Weirdest Boner" where someone either attempted to solicit nudes from minors or posted nudes of minors masquerading them as legal. If you dig far enough you can probably find who it was but nobody told me when I first heard about it. That thread got nuked off the site and I only re-heard mentions of it when there was similar controversy about the furry porn thread (although I don't think the groomer accusations in that instance were true).

Now that I think about it I'm surprised there wasn't more grooming incidents / accusations. There were a lot of deviants on there combined with a forum for video games that kids played. (There was some controversy around 2015 on whether to ban porn threads or not.)

In the year of our lord 2020/21 i can say this is still the case with the gmod modders , or atleast the ones ive interacted with in discords. Seems most of them have a stick up their ass because they ported some model from call of duty and that makes them the decider of how a certain model should be used.

The gmod community has only gotten more insular and weird with time, though the same is true with a lot of source engine multiplayer games. Only the really dedicated or autistic people are left from the original thousands who used to play it.

The thing is Gmod, while it used to be at the peak of ease of development for modding and sandbox, others have surpassed it in ease of use or even complexity in some or several ways. They might not have the same sense of community that Gmod did but games like Dreams or Roblox are a lot more approachable and convienence is always king. So the only guys you have left on old source stuff are mostly people who grew up with it or appreciate the massive legacy content.
