My assumption is whoever did the writing thought they'd make a statement about sanity and warfare and blah-blah-blah-I-played-Spec-Ops. What came out from the already tired idea is Jigglebone Spacezombies with fucking spears, TRON tech, and a space battle.

Im physically cringing what the hell is this? The chick sounds like someone straight out of flash porn game prounincing every single explative, changing her tone from happy to sad in the middle of a sentance. The writing varies from the charcter sounding heavily mentally stunted to acceptable, (dad jokes about power armor) Why does she keep talking about so much about shit and toilets? This was obivously written by some anime loving degenerate. An asian with red hair that you can turn in to subserviant slave? That just turned 18? That reeks of weeb.
Well, since somebody else dared to broach the subject, I'll add my contribution. The 18th birthday is not and has never been some magical transformative moment, and the age of adulthood has varied greatly across the breadth of both history and fiction, with the general trend that the more dangerous the world is, the lower that number gets. In the old Fallout games, you could actually set your character's age, with 16 being the minimum, and I remind you that Fallout 2 was the game that let you be a prostitute, a pornstar, and a super mutant's bottom bitch. For me, I consider the rule of thumb to be the notion that if it isn't shocking for someone of that age to be getting into combat or other life-or-death situations, then it probably shouldn't be shocking that said character would be having sex. America, at the very least, passes this mark.
On the other hand, the sheer lengths that Frontier goes to to sexualize America, combined with the almost flippant "no, really, I swear she's over 18!" disclaimer, reeks of her creator's fear that he would be accused of being a pedophile, which I can only imagine coming from one of two places: a complete lack of confidence in his audience, or that he really was programming with one hand. If you're going to add a sexually-active teenager to your work because it's a fucked-up world where shit that looks fucked-up to us happens, then just fucking own it, and for fuck's sake, at least try to keep it from looking like you're using the setting as an excuse to indulge your interest in teenagers.

The shadow government that has a space station that is more technologically advanced than both House and the Institute with its Ipod styled supertech. Beaten out by some angry larpers in football pads with lawnmower blade machetes.
There were a lot of directions they could have gone, some showing more promise than others, and yes the one that both had the strongest groundwork laid and holds my personal interest best was the Survivor's Guilt/PTSD thread. Instead, they just grabbed so many movie and game scenes (plus a real-life one, to boot) that I'm halfway considering just making a side-by-side comparison of their "inspirations".
(Also, on at least one of the occasions that weird fucking shit happens, it's because the Courier is being drugged. The other one is less clear if it's literal, induced, or insanity.)

Late, but I just found out the voice actor for Noctis is somehow in this game and I don't know how to deal with it.
Most of the VAs were in no position to know what was going on, and none of them knew the full scope of the mess. The creepy fucking shit is intense, but it's not all-pervasive. If you can figure out who he voiced, somebody can probably tell you if you should start worrying about his career.
EDIT: Nevermind, Ray Chase voiced Tiberius fucking Rancor, AHAHAHAHAHAHA that's definitely not going in his resume. Definitely not the worst performance of the lot, and free of fetish shit, but the Revolver Ocelot wannabe edgelord big bad.

Anyway, Mass Effect was horny, but it did not put horniness ahead of telling its story and making (some) sense.
90% of media that fails does so because it puts (thing) ahead of telling its story.

It wasn't just pure hornball, it was a thematic element. Mass Effect was a throwback to 60s and 70s sci-fi, the Captain Kirk era of meeting new creatures, learning their cultures, and finding out what their pussies feel like. It was an important part of the era, but it wasn't the driving force, and Bioware did an excellent job of replicating that. ME 2 moves over to 80s, the era of Blade Runner, of dark alleys, neon billboards, and seedy nightclubs. ME 2 Gets a lot more blatant on the sex, but it does so for the same reason that cigarettes and the word "fuck" first showed up in 2: it was a pillar of the era they were making tribute to.

The last one really gets me. I mean, they just copied so goddamn much from other games that the NCR campaign doesn't have an original bone in its body.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to make the Enclave the final boss for all factions? Like, have the Frontier NCR, (that's still a stupid fucking name) the Northern Legion, and the Mormon Brotherhood Crusaders all fight each other, then the Enclave pops up and the factions are forced to call a truce to deal with the literal Space Nazis firing at them with a death ray from space?
You can even sneak in a choice to betray your faction for the Enclave and let them eradicate the three warring factions so that Portland can have some peace, and you can have some sweet, sweet Enclave gear to take back to the Mojave with you. But no, that's just "a pointless fascist power fantasy." You know, aside from that OTHER fascist power fantasy faction that you can still join?
The difference was, Mass Effect was paying homage to the 60s, 70s, and 80s sci-fi. Frontier was just ripping off the last two decades of gaming.
And another thing; they could have made the NCR campaign feel less humiliating and nonsensical for the Courier if the Courier was allowed to break out on their own. Have it so that after you're captured and you refuse to give up, the Frontier NCR launches an attack on the Legion positions, not because they want to rescue you, but because they were tracking you and they waited for you to make contact with the enemy/get captured by the enemy so they can trace where the enemy is and launch a full-scale assault to knock them out for good.
It would show that General Blackthorne actually does value the lives of his men over some random asshole he hired from the Mojave, the latter of whom he simply used to figure out where the enemy was, and while the Frontier NCR and the Northern Legion blow each other's brains out, you get out of prison on your own by finding some way to break free on your own, especially if you're a female Courier, which means they'll have made you into a sex slave. A player with extra strength points can choke a guard for a key to their shackles/cell door, while someone with hacking skills can hack a computer and open all the doors.
You can then have it so that the NCR forces are struggling against Valerius' second-in-command who is doing a good job of holding the NCR forces back, then when he goes out to confront them himself, you kill him from behind and win the battle for the Frontier NCR. That way, the Courier actually does live up to being legendary by escaping from bondage/sex slavery and killing the enemy commander, Judith-style.
Instead, the author's "Wolfpack" OCs die to save your sorry ass, which makes the Courier seem more like Princess Peach while lionizing the OC characters and making the Courier look bad in comparison, because the latter couldn't finish a simple mission without getting captured, while the former staged a daring rescue that made the latter look useless in comparison.
The problems with the rescue sequence are twofold: firstly, it relies on emotional appeal, which isn't going to work on everyone. It worked on me, because I've both been one of those generic grunts and because I have... issues about being a burden, but that's a pretty specific combination of circumstances. The second problem is what I was saying upthread about the half-baked PTSD angle. They bring it back up three or four times to make a pretty setpiece, but outside of a single line at the funeral, they never make good on it. There's no opportunity for the Courier to express remorse or disregard, no option to tell Blackthorne that "no, this was too much, you should have left me on that fucking cross", hell, no chance for the player to decide for themselves how much it effected the Courier. Like AJ and her rape trauma, the Courier's PTSD exists in a Schrodinger's box, alternating between non-existence and primary character trait, depending on if the developers have a "cool moment" they can use it as a justification for.
I can name at least three mods that might be of interest to you, no guesses which website hosts them.
Just in case you don't know yet, the Enclave were originally going to/did build a motherfucking SPACE SHIP to find and colonize another world. The wiki claims they either scrapped it mid-way or finished it but never used it.
Is that Fallout 2 or 3 lore? If it's 2, then I admit, I really have trouble knuckling down and playing the old games. If it's 3, then >Bethesda lore
