So the new Fantastic Four movie came out, and unsurprisingly, it sucked total donkey dick. Let's discuss that.

Be warned, there might be some spoilers.

So what happened, exactly? I have no aspirations to watch it so spoilers away!

Was Doctor Doom lamer than the previous two movies' versions? I didn't think such a thing could be possible.

I haven't seen it, this is just what I've read about it.

Instead of the Four getting powers from cosmic rays in space like in the the 2005 movie, they get powers after traveling to an alternate dimension called Planet Zero, a standin for the Negative Zone. Why they didn't just call it the Negative Zone, I do not know. The Fantastic Four actually got their powers from the Negative Zone in the Ultimate Comics, in case you didn't know.

Dr. Doom was changed to be closer to the comics while the movie was filming due to fan outcry. Remember when you heard Dr. Doom was going to be a hacker named Victor Domashev. Not anymore! Although he is named Victor Von Doom, he isn't the dictator of Latveria and is just a scientist who was also given superpowers from Planet Zero. He gets trapped in the Negative Zone and goes insane. When he makes it out of the Negative Zone one year later, he attempts to destroy humanity to create a new world in his image. There is this one cool scene when we walks through a hallway, blowing people's heads up with his mind Tetsuo-style, but other then that, he is very lame. He is defeated after the Thing kicks him into a big blue light going up into the sky.

This isn't connected to the Marvel movie universe and it's just Fox doing shit because they want to try to make cash from Marvel's success. They've been holding onto the movie copyrights for Fantastic Four for years just to keep it from Marvel. This didn't seem like a serious attempt to create a franchise like with the various X-Men movies Fox has made. It honestly seems like it started as a cash grab and then once production started it was all about damage control due to some really shitty decisions.

Actors were told not to read the comic books because the movie would have very little to do with them. The whole thing was a train wreck during production thanks to the director. I feel bad for anyone who came into the project thinking they were making a legit movie.

I saw that movie today. What was that pacing? Why did it take them an hour, an hour, to get that stupid transporter thing running? I was like, shit man, is this filmed in real time? Are they building it live? Is the director sleeping with the prop guy's hot sister or something? So unnecessary and so fucking slow.

Haven't seen it myself, and I think that's a good call.

Only think that looks good in this film is the CGI for the Thing. And that's sadder than sad.

You know, I watched this just a few minutes ago at a drive in somewhere in Cape Cod.

It felt like a first act. The whole thing felt like a first act cut off from the rest of a film. To say nothing about how it barely felt like the comics, and the plot fuckups in some parts - how the hell did Sue Storm get her powers, anyhow?

The Roger Corman version may be better than this.

Also interesting, after all the rumors of the director, Josh Trank, being a huge douche to everyone, telling actors to ignore the comics, trashing a set in a rage, and so high on pills on set that he couldn't even talk, he turns around and tries to lay all the blame on the studio execs and corporate meddling. I saw it, and while there are clearly parts that you can tell the execs changed, it's also super obvious that he just took the money and characters and tried to force the film to be Chronicle 2 with no respect for the source material. This kid has destroyed his career before it even began, and I'm not sure if I feel too bad for him. He's had more chances than most.

The Corman version remains the definitive take on Marvel's first family. Not too surprising, honestly- at least that one felt like a FF movie, as flawed as it was.

Y'know the sad thing is that this isn't even the first FF movie to totally bomb.

*Remembers the Roger Corman movie that didn't even get a proper release*
