Has anyone played the new Far Cry yet? Is it fucking sweet? I'm probably going to buy a PS4 so I can play it because my computer is a piece of shit.

We need a general Far Cry thread because it's probably the best series of games ever. Let's sperg about Far Cry.

Never played the games after 2 but I will say that Far Cry 2 had the best character that is the Jackal. One would know of the Jackal mainly through the tapes of his interview scattered through out the game. Also played the first Far Cry and aside from being different on account of who made it, the game itself one of the few FPS games I played that requires you to be careful in gun fights. You don't regenerate health which in this case means that you do have to take cover and be quick in your attacks if you want to survive against mercs and biological experiments. That aside, the latest Far Cry does look interesting on account of the setting. How many games even have you play in the stone age?

I've played 1,2 and I'm currently playing through 3. I've never finished Far Cry 2, because every time I've gotten anywhere close to finishing the game, my computer craps out for some reason (more than 1 computer and more than once per computer) so I believe there's some gypsy curses at work.

Currently I'm really loving how they did open world in Far Cry 3. In Far Cry 2, the major complaint of many people was that the enemy checkpoints always respawned, but in Far Cry 3 the enemy outposts have a sphere of influence where they spawn enemy patrols. If you take out the outposts, that area will start spawning your allies instead and you gain an extra home base. Gunplay is also more satisfying this time around, in Far Cry 2 the guns felt kinda powerless, but in Far Cry 3 I'm playing on the Hardest difficulty, and the foes seem to drop pretty fast. The game world feels more alive than in Far Cry 2, for instance there's the hostile wildlife that also attacks the enemies, there are sometimes allies and civilians driving or walking around the gameplay area. The random encounters are more varied than in 2, for example in Far Cry 2 if there was an enemy checkpoint somewhere, it would almost invariably be in the same place, whileas in Far Cry 3 the enemy checkpoints on the roads shift locations, there are enemies in the game world that occasionally have civilians as hostages and you're rewarded for rescuing them. The hunting and crafting system is pretty superficial, but it does help to give you some nice gear progression, and what I really like about the game is that you can't carry a whole lot of ammo with you per gun, so you're kind of encouraged to use different weapons. Taking out enemy outposts stealthily feels really rewarding and fun when you learn some of the game mechanics first.

I have something to complain about the game as well :
-The main character is a horrible cringe factory. This is pretty bad in a game where most characters are otherwise pretty solid, and generally the setting is fun to roleplay Jace&Deagle Nation in especially after you meet Ciadude420  but the main character is pretty cringey in a bad way and in contrast with the game mechanics.
-Getting the radio towers gives you free weapons, which kind of invalidates the whole money system.
-Quicktime events and gimmick sequences can be pretty bad.

The change to the outposts is great but it makes the end if the game feel really empty once you've conquered most of them. It's in 4 when the random encounters really get good. Kyrat truly feels like a lived in country that you're merely visiting.

Also Jason Brody was a kind of a little bitch, although Snow White was a pretty cool nickname.

The Buzzsaw in Far Cry 4 makes the game piss easy, but I can't bring myself not to use it.
Hell yeah, that thing tears shit up. One of the things I hated about 4 was it forces you to carry a side arm. I always like to go out with a bow, an assault rifle, a sniper rifle, and a toy. Usually a flamethrower or machine gun, something fun to bust out and cause some mayhem from time to time but since I was required to carry a shit sidearm I didn't have room for the fun weapons.

I were saving them up until I unlocked the second island so I did all of the Outposts on the first Island right before I moved to the second.

Ahh, can you tell me a little about that?

Yeah, I get what they were trying to do with his character, but
I think the way they handled killing his brothers was bad, like you don't interact with your brother for longer than maybe 5-10 minutes, so the "emotional impact" of him dying was basically almost nothing. Also Jason also a huge douche to his gf while also being a gigantic pussy in regards to everyone else basically. The scene where you bust Tyce out of captivity was a pretty nice section, but again, you don't know this guy from before. It's pretty telling that I was sadder about Buck than anything else in the story up to that point.

I played 1, 3, and 4 and really liked the addition of outposts. It is very fun to try to clear them out in different ways. Sometimes by releasing wild animals, other times by undetected stealth sniping/melee assassination, and occasionally by just driving in there with DShK blazing in broad daylight. Also in 4, I liked the Himalayan mountain levels, they had some really good level design and atmosphere even if it was more linear compared to the rest of the open world areas.

In the DLCs for 3 and 4, they also introduce a character called Herkster who is basically a videogame version of Fedsmoker in appearance, name, and personality, so that is pretty cool.

Wild animals are seriously op. I was a couple of times sneaking around outposts and a tiger attacked and soloed the outpost. I usually release the wild animals on the friendly rebels that arrive after you clear an outpost because those fuckers rarely do anything to help and often just fuck up my stealth when I'm trying to do Wanted Dead quests.

The basic story is a country in the middle of an extended civil war. A Hong Kong crime lord named Pagan Min hijacked a revolution and installed himself as King. The other members of the revolution then tried to remove him. He's managed to convince the West that he's a democratic leader plagued by terrorists while he's spent the past 20 years exporting opium and treating the country like his personal playground.

Not only do small random battles crop up all over the place, but there's various conveys and messengers and such that'll you'll often see and have to stop. You'll often time see pilgrims and villagers that exist for no reason except Kyrat is their home. The country is full of human and animal life and feels very alive. I feel like the really nailed Kyrat.

Brody never really worked out, but Buck and Vaas were fucking great. CIADude420 was pretty cool too, he shows up again in 4.

Riding elephants in 4 was awesome but animals in general felt too overpowered. Far too many outposts could be beaten by releasing an animal or throwing bait. Fedsmoker was the shit! I would be okay with him showing up in primal tbh.

I'd get Primal but the reports are that is has absolutly abymsal performance on even top of the line PCs.

Not surprising, considering 4 was the same way.

Also no mention of Blood Dragon? Shame. I was hopping when they were teasing Primal, it'd be a new Blood Dragon.

I've played 1-4. Enjoyed all of them, especially from two onwards (whoever decided to put the grenade launcher into a pistol slot should get a fucking bonus).

Not so sold on Primal. I actually hated the Kyrat legend section of 4 because of the hideous close combat mechanics which seem to have gone into Primal. I may nab it on sale sometime, but for now... not for me.

It's arguably worse because they didn't adapt the mechanics at all with Primal. You don't have a block button for instance. In a game where you mostly fight with spears.
