Fasting -

Usually, if I want to lose weight or detoxify my body, I just eat better or go on some diet until I'm happy. But fasting has always seemed like an interesting concept. I've done a fair bit of research, but I'm still unsure if I'd ever try it. I've learned that fasting with water can allow you to live on however much extra you have on you, so long as you take precautions. Fasting without water is more dangerous, more uncomfortable, cannot last, but is more effective on that short term than fasting with water.

I've heard of people who've taken it upwards of 15, 30, even 60 days (the latter if they're lard-o-matic). I've heard it recommended by varied, reputable sources (the first I got the idea was from Plato). But I've also heard people to be against it, or at least skeptical. It's interesting, and I'm not sure I'd need any extended sort of fast if I were to do it, but it's a consideration. I'm still reading about it.

What is are the community opinions on this subject? I'm eager to hear.

Intermittent Fasting is a common and healthy weight loss tool. It's most popular among people on ketogenic diets---those are diets very high in fat, moderate in protein, and extremely low in carbs. usually, intermittent fasting means limiting your eating window to 8, 6, or 4 hours each day. longer fasts for 2 or 3 days at a time are usually recommended at a maximum once per month.

i've never heard of anyone fasting without water. usually when you fast, you need to drink much more water because burning fat is a diuretic process. people recommend drinking tons of water and even salt water to replace electrolytes which also get depleted when you fast. just google things like "keto diet" and "intermittent fasting" and you'll see a whole bunch of pretty reputable stuff. as far as fad diets go, the keto folks seem to have same reliable science on their side.

The best way to lose weight is counting calories. Get an app, plan out your meals each day, and as long as you come in under the line, you’ll be losing weight. I tried fasting once a long time ago and it fucked with my immune system. Yes, it gave me the body of an androgynous sex worker who retired at 27 (which I was, years before fasting), but it’s just not worth it.

Fasting is one of those issues, like most of diet and health, that is filled with bullshit and misinformation. If you think you need to 'detoxify' your body you are already so far down the scam, misinformation, and other bullshit road that there's no coming back. It's all a web of bullshit spread by 'alternative health' people who want your hard earned money.

Also, I take issue with calling Plato a reputable source.

If you are going to fast for a few days, watch what you eat afterwards. It's like long distance hiking and you come into town and eat a big fat greasy burger while downing some beers.

You'll have shit running down your legs in no time.

What on earth is so great about not eating food?
It’s better than being a lard ass.

Yes water is important in all diets (unless you’re trying to lose water weight) but where do coffee and beer fit in? Life’s real essentials

You can live off beer somewhat. The Egyptians etc... use to pay their workers in beer.

Not the type of beer you drink today obviously, but hefeweizen might come close.

And hunter-gatherers settled down after realizing farmers (who at the time lives worse, shorter lives than literal cave men) had beer. The important thing is beer.

On topic, other than the devil’s juices I eat a small breakfast and dinner. Eating is a lot of time commitment and not eating is perfect
For my life style.

Off topic, but hunter gatherers would also eat fermented berries. This is why animals get drunk.

I would think a cozy job back in the day would be a monk in a monastery, reading books while drinking beer.
