It is a gleaming, glossy production in the ad and magazine spreads with a seedy underbelly once you actually get there.

It just strikes me as very counterintuitive - in general - to risk offending a guest at the hotel where you're employed, so that's why I believe it either didn't happen or Anna took one innocuous comment and blew it massively out of proportion. Do you think they (meaning the hotel owners and staff) knew about Anna and her online "activism"? The woman filed not one but SIX sexual harassment lawsuits during her brief employment at Sprinklr.

Not Jamaica specific but I know many of these islands have a problem with good employment (have many relatives on Carib islands). Finding a good job can be a real issue. I imagine Jamaica would be a big one in that area as well. A stable job at a hotel is a nice gig, tourists with cash and those tips while they have these Gardens ghetto's where they kill eachother over scraps, gotta stay out of that shit, and no fat welfare checks for them if they lose their job. Personally the only issue I find with it is the conflation of "direct cause" and "increased risk". It's not fatphobic to state that being massively overweight will make detection of cancer harder (not least due to doctors' bias that any problem is probably due to weight) and surgery riskier. I've also seen people claim that Cancer Research is in pay to a dieting group (like Weightwatchers) so profit financially from scaring people into joining. I'm not in any way denying the existence of either fatphobia or a diet industry that relies on people being unhappy with themselves, but do these people not think that maybe a cancer charity is more motivated by, I don't know, preventing cancer??
