Fat Guy Across America / FGAA / Eric Hites and Angie Hites (nee Atterbury) - In which a morbidly obese scam artist crowd funded a year+ vacation.

Yeah, his plans are at best idiotic and delusional. You don't want to go days without some kind of support, even if it's your barely functional wife in a camper. And camping on the side of the road all by yourself when you're about 400 lbs overweight, smoking, mid 40s and trying to half assed exercise (even if it's 3 miles a day) is just dangerous.

He's gotten good advice from people who know what they're talking about and either ignored it or insulted them.

My favorite part about Eric's math is that "only riding days count", even on a long trip such as this. So if Eric rides 5 miles on Monday and 5 miles on Friday, he still considers that riding 5 miles/day because only riding days count. If someone states that he's riding 2 miles per day, he gets upset at the "idiot math" because days off don't count. Note that his usual M.O. is to have more zero days than riding days.

Also, there was one point during the first go round where he was actually doing some riding where he considered it a "100 mile week" even though it started on a Tuesday and ended on the next Thursday or something close to that.

Also, for those that care enough, make sure you archive everything because Eric makes frequent mass deletions of his social media interactions if they aren't 100% positive. For example, I cannot find the Jill Homer conversation anywhere on his page.

it's hard to not admire this guy. He really doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks.
Nope, that's completely, utterly backwards.

He cares deeply what other people think, which causes him to spend an insane amount of time on social media trying to "set the record straight" ranting at all of the "haters."

Here's a classic example from 2016 after the whole thing had finally gone to shit and he had given up and went back to Indiana while still insisting that he'd be back on the road any day now. Tell me this is a man who doesn't care what anyone thinks:

lol read Eric telling a renown cyclist, Jill Homer, to stuff it:
this exchange is perfect.
It's his ego and narcissism on full display.

Legit cyclists are trying to give him advice, and he just takes them as attacks. "Telling him what not to do".

Anyone that's not "rah rah you can do it" is immediately labeled as haters and trolls, even if they want to see him succeed. Eric will not change a thing he's doing to actually succeed; Eric will just do whatever he wants and then play the bumbling idiot card if/when it fails.

Well, what I mean is most obese cows don't do much but sit around all day. This guy definitely has some kind of drive. Shit, how many people would travel across the country like he's doing?

No way, man. You still have this completely backwards. Everything he's doing is for the sake of avoiding conventional responsibilities. You should not mistake his pigheadedness and entitlement and delusions of grandeur for "drive."

He started this trip because he was basically out of options, not because he was driven by a grand vision. He has been continuously failing because of his arrogance and laziness, not because of the difficulty of his goals.

He has no money and he has no willpower for dieting. A responsible, driven person in his shoes would be taking the initiative to learn how to diet properly while seeking/maintaining conventional employment. He's convinced he doesn't need to do any of that.

He can't cope with the fact that for most people, employment and physical fitness are not some glamorous things that net you a bunch of attention and adoration.

Leading an adult life is an unpleasant grind that requires focus and maturity. He can't handle any of that, so he's chasing a harebrained dream instead.

You could argue that he's driven to get attention, but he's even lazy about that. All of his efforts to organize this "journey" are obscenely half-assed, and he constantly whines about how the logistics of it all are so difficult.

All of his "drive" stems from his persistent delusions about finding an easy way out.
