Fat Guy Across America / FGAA / Eric Hites and Angie Hites (nee Atterbury) - In which a morbidly obese scam artist crowd funded a year+ vacation.

Yesterday he did a live stream from his mom and dad's kitchen. It's pretty boring. You wouldn't think a video from someone who nearly died a week ago would be boring, but here we are.

One moment that amazed me, though: he mentions that he's "hopefully" done smoking. It's remarkable how non-commital he is about the most basic and urgent lifestyle changes. I guess if you're being generous you could say his hedging is just realism and self-awareness, because he's failed so many times that he's learned not to make promises he can't keep.

What *really* got me, though, is how he brags that he "refused nicotine patches the whole time he was in the hospital" like it's some sort of achievement. He might be aware that it's more than likely he'll end up failing and go back to smoking, yet he's still too stubborn to admit he needs help.

Also notable: when he was in the hospital he weighed "640+ pounds." He says that before he started retaining all sorts of "water weight" he was around 560, and when he left the hospital he was around 580 or 590.

For context, this graph I made ages ago tracked his "progress" during his initial bike trip attempt:

Here's a rip of the live stream, for posterity:

Looks like he got released, which you know Angie didn't want, she wants him dead. Still wearing his oxygen tube. But I bet the moment he stops filming, the cigarettes go right back in the mouth along with Big Ang.
If he doesn't make significant changes to his lifestyle, he's dead. He has to quit smoking and he has to lose weight, period.

His FGAA posts are full of comments from previously worthless people who realized that even they can put more effort into fitness, weight loss, working, and relationships than Eric.

Meanwhile he gets fatter and unhealthier, his heart packs it in, he continues to eat crap and watch porn all day on his phone, and get cuckolded by his crazy wife, who actually does seem to be making a minimal effort to lose enough weight for permanently life altering gastric surgery when just not eating everything in sight would be healthier and just as effective.

The success stories inspired by this slob are actually legit impressive. Pounds lost, lives changed, healthy goals ... brings a tear to my nostril innit

Eric has always had the most potential as a cautionary tale. He’s like an episode of Hoarders that motivates you to clean out your closets and donate a bunch of shit to Goodwill. This is Eric’s purpose in life.

It sounds like you should update the graph, because despite all of his "working out" he's bigger now than he's ever been and will be until he dies.

Imagine being 510 pounds for years and then ballooning up even further to 580 - an absolute fucking unit of a grifter.

If he started his stay at the hospital at 640+, went down to 560, but ballooned to 590 when has was discharged, Angie's definitely enabling his eating habits and probably sneaks food in like so many fat enablers in many "My 600-lb Life" episodes. I'm curious, though, if Angie's actually making some small effort to slim down while overfeeding Eric, is she some sort of fat fetishist or does she have a life insurance out for Eric that she's anxious to get to soon?

dunno, I think you're overthinking it. Eric lives with his parents, who apparently keep the kitchen stocked with junk food. I'd say that's probably the main thing that enables him to remain so fat.

If Angie is enabling or exacerbating his problems, I'd assume it's mostly a consequence of ignorance and misguided good intentions. I don't think Angie is a *good person* necessarily, but I don't see any reason to doubt her when she says she loves Eric. I think the fact that they're both morbidly, grotesquely obese to the point that it's destroying their health is something that she's genuinely bothered by.

Here is another verified weight video from the Philadelphia TV station interview. What's amazing about Eric is when he gets a verified weigh in, it's nearly always the same while he was riding the bike (510 pounds). In this video, the TV reporter tried to repair the damage Eric did to himself. Yes, this is the infamous "The scale is wrong" video.

I don’t think he started at 570 lbs but its impossible to say what the starting weight was. He claimed to have stood on a truck weighing scale or maybe it was a scrap yard scale, I forgot. Notwithstanding that, he should have stayed out on the bike trail because he looks significantly worse now than then

We have a fat bastard sighting. Says him going into the hospital (again) put the fear of God in him, so he's working on things "slowly" and he's "working on things". Same old shit, costing taxpayers $100,000s of a year in medical bills.

Even if he's being honest, he's still fucking up. Doctors always tell morbidly obese patients to commit to what essentially amount to crash diets, as at this stage, they're already on Death's door. It sounds like Eric is thinking, "Maybe three burgers instead of four today... Maybe a medium shake from McDonald's, as opposed to a large..."

They re-aired the Dr. Phil episode where I live, and re-watching it...

You know, I've seen a lot of Dr. Phil episodes (he's the modern equivalent of a sideshow, it's glorious) but I have to say that Eric might be one of the most openly arrogant, distinctly passive-aggressive guests that Dr. Phil has ever had on his show- that I've seen, anyways. He's had delusional people, he's had hostile people, but I think Eric might be one of the few that actually had the nads to sass Dr. Phil on his own show, accusing him of "taking things out of context" and "oh, since you just went ahead and totally guessed at how fast I ride" and "but I guess you wouldn't take care of your mother if she were sick".

It's like watching someone poke a grizzly bear in the eye with a stick. How the hell did he think provoking Dr. Phil was gonna go?

Looking at this thread, it doesn't shock me even a little that he just went ahead and kept doing his own thing. Whether he's a legit grifter or just feels entitled to get whatever he wants, from what I saw on the show he is way too fucking arrogant to ever take criticism or believe that he's really doing something wrong.
