In Japan, they have something called the Metabo Law, which mandates that employers conduct annual physical checkups to monitor the weight of their employees. When an employee is found to be over a certain weight, they are required to attend counseling sessions, and failure to comply results in fines for the company.
Quite how effective the law has been is difficult to say, but considering that Japan has a national obesity rate of just 3.2% (compared with the US rate of 42.4%), I'd say they're doing something right.
