Favorite patriotic songs -

The favorite national anthem thread gave me the idea for this thread, for songs that aren't really national anthems, but show great values for your country's values and that you would consider playing on your country's equivalent of our Independence Day.

The US has a lot of really great ones, especially some of the stuff that came out after 9/11. "Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American)" by Toby Keith is a good example of one of those. It's got a fun sound to it, but Toby wanted to show his dedication to his country after such a huge event (especially the members of his family, such as his dad). It's a great song that I like:

I normally can't stand cover bands or any songs that aren't the original because they're typically universally worse than the original, but I have an incredible weakness for quartet music.

Battle Hymn of the Republic. It was forged during the Civil War, which was on the most bloody and personal war in American history. When you remember that, and weigh on every word in the lyrics, and despite the fact that on the surface the song is about a righteous, liberating God, you can see how it is seamlessly melded into the ideals that America gave birth to before, during, and after that war. I think it is everything morally and objectively good about America put into song, or at least what the people at the time envisioned her to become. Even if you think any kind of patriotism, higher morality or religion is absolute bunk, you can't deny that it has a great majesty to it that makes it so moving.
