When Chris started doing this, he numbered the medallions x/200 or something and people poked fun at him thinking he'd ever sell more than just a few.
It's really weird to think that Chris eventually had the last laugh...

It shows he's at least willing to put some effort in for something he wants, and it's the closest he's getting to making Sonichu the cash-cow he wants it to be. Without a reboot of the comic, that is.
