While mistreatment of Arabs and non-Jews of various religions IS an issue in Israel, Phil seems entirely ignorant of the fact that around 20% of Israel's population is of Arab descent (possibly more depending on how you define 'Arab,' as significant numbers of Jews immigrated from Arabic speaking countries like Morocco, Yemen, Egypt and Iraq).
Arab Israelis are the majority in parts of Galilee, Wadi Ara and the Negev, Arabic is recognized as a state language in Israel, Arabs sit on the Knesset, Arab Israelis like Ofra Haza, Zohar Argov and Elia Suleiman have contributed to the arts and popular culture of Israel, Arabs play on the Israeli national football team, and Arabs (specifically Jewish Arabs, Bedouin and Druze) serve in the Israeli army. Granted all that probably goes over Phil's head; he has a hard enough time understanding race relations in the US let alone a foreign country he's never been to. He has a hard enough time understanding he's not a beautiful Latina!

While there HAVE been racial or cultural problems within Israel, especially in the past, today only about half the Jewish population is of Ashkenazi descent. Sefardim and Mizrahim (whose heritage lies in the Mediterranean, North Africa, Middle East, Arabia, Persia, Ethiopia, Transcaucasia, Central Asia, India and elsewhere) form the other half. Indeed, some of these Sefardim form the core of ultra-conservative movements like Shas.

Also, I'm rather amused that Phil is attacking Israel over the refugee crisis without attacking those nasty white, cishet European countries, especially since Hungary and Slovakia have made statements about only accepting Christian refugees, not Muslims, Alawis, Yezidis, Druze or the like.
Then again, like many American far leftists and pseudointellectuals, he seems more than content to go on diatribes about how evil all white men are while at the same time praising Europe as an enlightened bastion of culture. In his case, he seems to go so far as to view Spain and Portugal as non-white "Latinxs."
