This is as true as it gets, but I don't think Gamergate understands the only way to win is to not play.
The only thing these articles are proving is that Brianna Wu is more pathetic than Jace ever was.
I'm all too familiar with that mentality from liberals. I've seen them complain about whitey in one breath, then denounce minorities for holding positions they don't agree with it. They like ethnic things when it comes time to hit up a trendy city restaurant or look at it in an art museum, but the minute they see a real Latino, real Arab or real Native American on the street they lock their doors and drive away.
Ironically, that sort of insular hugbox applies to quite a few lolcows and their accompanying communities, like tumblr or the furries. It's just Wu is much more insufferable about it, probably by dint of coming from a wealthy family to begin with.

Is this supposed to be the comparison to a mass shooting? Because it sounds more like a reference to "shouting fire in a crowded theater", which is a common example of when it's okay to restrict free speech for the sake of health and safety.
They're very proud that fellow affluent cultural elites of all sexual orientations, races (so long as there aren't *too* many blacks), religions (not just atheist but agnostic too!), etc. can enjoy champagne and amuse-bouches in salons free of icky poor people.

Why all these feminists care entirely too much about things idiots say to them on fucking Twitter or YouTube? They are idiots, you don't need to give any lip to them. But I guess the oppression points wouldn't be around much if that was the case.
I know, right? Because as we all know, women are doing just peachy all over the world. It's not like women in India get acid thrown in their fucking faces for refusing to be forcibly married, or that female babies in China are aborted/killed soon after birth for being the "wrong" gender, or that women are murdered by their own families in "honor killings", or that young girls have their genitals mutilated (almost always without anesthesia and without proper surgical equipment), or that literally millions of women and children have been and are being forced into sexual slavery and bondage against their wills. The biggest threat facing women today are gamers.
I hate to employ the "starving kids in Africa" fallacy, but it honestly pisses me off so much to see Western feminists turn a blind eye towards the atrocities committed against women all over the world and instead focus almost exclusively on dumb bullshit like this. It makes me even madder to see people like Brianna self-victimizing themselves and acting like they're the most oppressed person in the world when literally billions of people would kill to be in their position.
I've been blessed with a very good life, a better life than most people could ever dream of. But I feel like I have a responsibility to be aware of the suffering that other people go through so that I can hopefully make a difference; I've read a lot of books and articles and seen a lot of documentaries on human trafficking and other crimes against humanity, and although the content is heartbreaking, it's so, so important to be aware of what's going on. I want to strap Brianna Wu and whoever wrote this article to a chair and force them to watch what other women go through on a daily basis. Maybe then they wouldn't compare the whole "Jace Connors" situation to terrorism or act like they're being oppressed.

You're absolutely correct to point the discussion towards human suffering elsewhere. Feminism is important in the developed as well as the developing world, because we're nowhere near the goal of true egalitarianism, but we're at a stage where there's a limited amount of money and a limited amount of man-hours that can be spent on advocacy.
The culture of "signal boosting" that people like Wu have advocated has the direct effect of taking from the pool of attention available to other serious human rights issues around the world. It's a zero sum game, and it's a deadly one. For every hour that someone spends raging about Wu and GamerGate is an hour they likely would have spent raging about FGM in North Africa, chattel slavery in Mauritania, internet freedom in China, or even ending discrimination against transgender people in the United States.
And it's why I rage at terms like "GamerGhazi": stealing the thunder of truly awful events like what's still happening in Libya dilutes the importance of the original incident, and focuses national attention elsewhere.
That's an endemic problem with these "news" sites and articles like these. They look at isolated cases of someone being harassed, or even just widely critiqued, and try to shove it into their narrative about how society is built around institutions and systems that are meant to exclude women or people of color. Yeah, Jan obviously doesn't care about throwing Brianna Wu under the bus for laughs, but it's not because he "hates women" and believes that women are "disposable" anymore than CWC being continuously trolled meant that his trolls hate autistic people in general or think that all men can be used as a means for a cheap laugh.
It's like, as much as they say that they want a society where people aren't judged based on their sex, they are stubbornly entrenched in the idea that, if a women is being harassed, it's because she's a woman, not because she repeatedly and with full intent says moronic things in front of a global audience.
