Have you ever felt like you could relate to a character in a movie or just really enjoy something?
probably
have you ever felt you ARE that character or animal or even objects?
I hope for your sake, no
But even though it's completely insane, it's probably one of the most popular communities on the God forsaken site known as tumblr
the most popular kins right now from what I see is stuff like:
fnafkin (that furry horror game)
pokekin
And unsurprisingly SUkin (steven universe)
Really, look up some of these on tumblr. It's a wild ride

Buckle up your seatbelts kiddies, cause it's kin-fashion time.
I found a mediocre blog that posts meiocre kin-fashion, for when ya know, wearing clothes will alleviate that pesky character-dysphoria of yours. #transpeoplehaveiteasy

I don't understand people who are kin with the purple man. He murders children and smiles while he does it. How can you identify with that? He has no other personality traits described other than killing kids.

It must be similar to Jeff the killer fangirls. From his creepypasta, he has no personality besides being a troubled, violent teen who eventually mutilates his own face and murders his family. I'm assuming the fans all want to be 2edgy4u!!!1 when they fangirl/become kin over a psychotic/murderous character.

if these people actually thought they were that character, wouldn't wearing a T-shirt with "your" face on it be a bit....arrogant?
We do have an otherkin thread in lolcow general.

Fictionkin do get mentioned there a bit.
do you think we might as well keep this one for fictionkin or maybe find a mod to move the otherkin thread here? It seems to be a tumblr-exclusive type of ridiculous

Nah, that sort of thing was super popular in the 70's.

Otherkin is a phenomena that exists well outside of Tumblr. Tumblrkin are, admittedly, a very specific type of crazy, though.

IDK, we'll see how this goes.

I remember doing a fictionkin Q&A kinda thing in another thread, but hi, pretty sure this is relevant. I use a completely different definition of fictionkin than tumblrites like to throw around, and it's kind of hard to explain it. I'll do my best, however.

Those of you who may have missed it, I'm kin with a very vague character from a rhythm game, and have stuck with that one character for going on two years now. I don't believe in swapping kins as the weekday sees fit, and try to stay away from those who have more than 8 kins. Like hell I'll affiliate with those crazies.

Thing is, I don't believe I am this character. I might make small jokes about it here and there. In the little bit of established canon this rhythm game holds, this character is the god of his world. I don't understand either, but I laugh at that, and tend to make little "I'm god" jokes in the spirit of things. No, the way I see it is that I kinda would like to be like this character in a way.

It sounds stupid, but take my word for it when I say that since I started adapting this character, things have gotten a lot better for me. I mean not to powerlevel TOO much, but I grew up kind of spoiled, and in an attempt to better myself, I tried to adjust to this character's modest and humble attitude. Guess what? It worked. Most people would say 'oh, yeah, that's called looking up to a character as a role model'. I agree, but in a way, I kind of don't.

It was originally a concept I grabbed from tumblr in a tumblr-esque way, but I kind of adapted it to seem a bit less.. accessory-esque. Without revealing my age, I still have quite a long way to go, and I'll likely stay sticking to this character for a long time. Is it immature? Sure, I'm not saying it isn't. But I'm moreso saying that it's a crutch for now. I hope to 'grow out of it' soon.

It'll be kinda hard giving up those jokes, though.

Now onto these tumblrkins. I know a lot of them. I don't understand how I meet these people or why. All I know is there's tons of them.

Without pointing fingers, I introduced a friend to the aforementioned rhythm game, and immediately they latched on to a character from it that has very little established canon. And said canon is hard to find. The wikia on this game is notorious for being badly translated and inaccurate, so most of the time when I want to find out info, I have to find/translate it myself. Usually others do the same. Instead, this person just kinda took in what the wikia said and is going with that. Can't complain much, at least they tried.

I can't say the same for another person I knew (oddly enough shared my kin at the time) who appeared out of nowhere on my dash. So I talk to them, soon learn that they don't even know the names of the two mascots of this series. How do you miss them? They're literally on the title screen! This person must have singled out that one character, and didn't bother to even look into the actual game at all. The last thing I couldn't believe is that they spent money on a canon .jp url for their blog while knowing nothing else about the game. As someone who plays said game a lot, this really rustled some serious jimmies.

Our brief friendship ended when I posted that it was ok to think certain characters are cis. They blocked me on skype, tumblr, twitter, and steam. If I had known they were an sjw in the making, I'd have never spoken to them. I can only hope they've left this poor rhythm game series alone.

Edit: Sorry if this is all OT, by the way.

That last one is kind of confusing. Putting aside the fact that she obviously isn't a cartoon character, why is she apologizing for her character comforting a kid who just had a nightmare? That's something nice, not something to apologize for. Then again, why am I expecting these people to be logical?

I think it's because of the episode where Steven watched Pearl get stabbed. "She" didn't account for how that might emotionally affect him, so she feels guilty?

That...that actually makes sense to me. In fact, I tend to do similar things, in a way (though in my case it's a matter of relating hardcore to a character with an insane number of issues who is a huge asshole and trying to figure out how I can avoid becoming like her; I do have a character I aspire to be like as well, but not in the same way exactly).

I think Tumblr's crazy fictionkin sector could learn from you, actually.
