I think last patch's msq's was the low point of the post-shadowbringers story, it felt like we were wasting too much time to finally find the cure for the tempering or whatever and the dungeon was really bad then we spent the other half of the msqs trying to be frends with the beasties again, at least in this patch, we defeated lunar bahamut and found out stuff about the towers in fewer amount of quests, the weapon finale was good but the nier raid was rather disappointing, all there is left is bozja to destroy that giant imperial airship.

Kindly spoiler that shit next time, nigger. I'm still waiting until next month to resub and catch up.

That said, it sounds gay as fuck that something like Lunar Bahamut gets introduced in one patch then promptly dealt with in the very next.

Don't worry they explain that shit.

Also I'm serious it's like whenever were dealing with the empire the story goes downhill and gets either boring (because we can't do fucking anything) or they create stupid plot threads that end up being Red Harrings. like how many times have we sent the scions to the empire. We've sent Alphinaud to the empire, we "sent" Estinien. Thancred has been so many times that he may as well bring back a postcard for the fucking warrior of light.

I think That's why shadowbringers Has the best story right now, because 5.0-5.3 the empire is basically irrelevant and we get the ascians motives for wanting to bring the world to an end constantly. It's great! I really enjoyed it! Plus the characters and beast races in shadowbringers were good too. It's just too bad we probably won't see them again. Aw well back to Bozja.

Wack, I don't understand their intention. Like is it just a dude that cross-dresses but also has booba? People create the weirdest lore for their characters.

I have someone kinda like that in another ffxiv discord server where this one cat guy won't stop posting screenshots of his modded character shirtless. It doesn't make me uncomfortable or anything it's just a weird daily ritual with him.
Like all I can imagine him doing is "oh boy time to log in and take my daily screenshot and log off."
My rituals involve posting these

I honestly don't get those who play the game to be horny. Like, you have to be a special breed of autistic to unironically do that without a trace of "hmmm, maybe I shouldn't". Yet porn mods are the most popular mods by far for FFXIV and playing dress-up is apparently a significant section of the playerbase.

I just don't get it man.

i more think it's the exact opposite. for something as world-changing as a cure for tempering, something that justifies specifically us fighting these monsters over others, it felt like it was resolved awfully quickly.

Let's not forget how these primals are summoned. So while we down one it doesn't necessarily mean another one won't just pop up in its place.

To me, the last time we fought the actual empire was at Praetorium. Gaius was acting under the orders of the then-current emperor, who was all but a puppet for Emet Selch, as was the entire country up until that point. Lahabrea fucks everything up there and then the puppet dies. After that point, we're left with Garlemald being used as a vehicle for other villains plans. Garlemald was/is boring because the characters using it were/are boring.
The country at this point is dead, with Fandaniel managing to make the idea of a country function like a primal (to my understanding at least); I'm fine with having to deal with Garlemald again because we're going to be there to put it out of it's misery, not kindly ask Zenos to stop being a sociopath so Garlemald can join the Eorzean UN.

I think we'll fart around on the first again. I doubt we'll spend an entire expansion there again but we'll stop by. To me, YoshiP and the writers have been hinting at travel between stars, with the hanging thread of the Voidsent star maybe serving as the main antagonizing force for a while.
The only real complaint I have is that the WoL still has a tendency to job for new bad guys. You're going to tell me that I, a dude who went up against not one but two unsundered Ascians in peak condition, still has to take a fire blast like Ala Mhigan soldier #23431. At least give me the dignity of being able to remain standing in that scene.

A problem I have with the patch quests is that they feel too short. Like in HW, I was thinking "Oh shit, Nidhog's going to fuck shit up-oh, he's dead already". or Yotsuyu's redemption arc was barely 2 patches long or so.

5.5 TLDR review thing
MSQ was good.
That Estinien scene with Alisae makes me think he's going to be the complete Zoro(from One Piece) of the next expac and I love it.
New dungeon is exactly what I wanted. This is how you make deserts exciting imo. Also that remix of Pitfire is incredible.
Lunar Bahamut is extremely dissapointing
Gear can be mixed and matched to look really good. Tank top looks perfect for WAR

Diamond:
I honestly didn't care about this story past Gaius being a badass at the end. Valens was an interesting dude but he also just didn't do anything for the fights so it came off eh.
Four Lords had a better story imo and that one had the whole comedic section with Tataru trying to be an arcanist and dropping aoes on you
Diamond Weapon is tied for best extreme fight with SOS for this whole expansion. No phase change cutscene, simple fight to pick up, and it's kinetic.
Diamond Weapon Weapons(I know it sounds ridiculous) are my aesthetic but I know it's not for everyone.

Nier:
Was a good AR over all.
Jack of Hearts was a lame as fuck boss, they could have made him way cooler.
9S minigame in the third fight is simple but a really cool touch
Last boss is just a total love letter to Drakengard 1/3, and I feel bad for people who never played/read over for the story of it
Kaine/Final Fantasy Main Theme is one of the best songs in the damn game.

Overall: It was good, but you can tell this is just the time filler until the next half of the patch and the next expac as a whole.

The new Nier striking/aiming/scouting set is so fucking good.

To be fair those ascians both almost killed us and only didn't because we got help at the last minute both times.

But also I have a stupid fucking theory that we have some form of canon plot armor because we're the warrior of light that our power gets boosted or some shit whenever we deal with a primal.

I don't remember where it's stated but the Echo has it where if you died, you're simply retconned to an earlier period and that your "death" was just a simulation in your head.

The echo makes you basically immortal.
Instead of dying like normal, your soul just leaves your body and you can take over another body completely. It has to be a living body though. Only ascians can take over dead bodies. They can also heal wounds inflicted on a body so that the original soul of the body can return to it and basically resurrect themselves. We see a Sahagin do this and then later Zenos himself when he yeets Elidibus out of his body and takes it back, having used a rando elezen's body to make his way over to it.

Additional powers of the echo can and may include:

Foresight - We're able to "see" where any enemy will throw an attack allowing us to dodge it. That explains why we can see huge aoe markers all over the place.

Soul gazing - They can look into the souls of individuals and live their past through their eyes. Some are even able to predict the future like Mikoto and Krile.

Language Understanding - No matter what language is spoken to you, even if you've never heard it before, you're able to understand it perfectly. Likewise, whoever you speak to can understand you as well. Similar to how dragons can speak to people in their language and you're able to understand them even though you don't know the language yourself.

Aetheric Influence - The power most commonly seen in all echo users. Like how primals can temper individuals by overwriting their aether and imprinting it with their own, echo users are immune to this because their influence is stronger than a primals, allowing them to not only resist tempering altogether, but particular users who know what they are doing can take over primals themselves and instead exert their will and or influence on to them. We see this with Zenos when he completely overtakes Shinryu and when Ysale is able to remain in complete control despite using herself as a catalyst to summon a primal, essentially becoming a primal herself. This makes those with the echo particularly dangerous because they can basically take over a primal or absorb their power and become a God. Something Zeno hints at a few times. (For those who don't know, Zenos isn't a natural echo user. The echo he has is artificial. The Ala Mhigan bitch also has an artificial echo but while she got hers from Krile, no one really knows who Zenos got his from.

The only other individual who turns into a "primal" is Thordan but there's really no explanation for how he is able to remain in control unless he actually isn't and he's just so full of himself that he remains unchanged even when he assumes a different form. Either that or the ascians forked over secrets that allowed him to bypass this. He could have also had the echo but that's never confirmed.

Edit: I forgot that the Roe from Bozja turns into a primal when she becomes the Queen. It's explained that she is able to remain in control because she undergoes the same procedure that the ala mhigan broad did, taking Mikoto's echo and also explaining how she was able to counter Mikoto's future prediction.

There was another function that they didn't touch on enough. In 1.0, you used to be able to time travel which is like soul gazing but you're able to interact with the past. The only time this was brought up again was that one scene with Cid where he somehow remembers that it was you who gave him his goggles.

Wot. She explicitly turned into a primal, and remained in full control. (Not her powers, though, which is why we have the mid-phase interlude.) It's why she stabbed that little shit Asahi as her last act as the primal; revenge for all those years. You even have a blurb with Scions later musing on how Yotsuyu challenges their current understanding of primals, though the events of ShB interrupted any exploration of that story.

It's definitely an ongoing theme with FFXIV atm, but I am not sure if they'll ever resolve it in any satisfactory manner.

I could be wrong, but I think that only applies to raids/alliances, because the time spent in there is less linear.

Fordola got her artificial echo from serving as a test run for the same machine and procedure that gave Zenos his. If I remember correctly, Garlemald kidnapped a bunch of people with the echo and strapped them to their machine, Krile being one for drama. She still has her echo throughout Eureka, so whatever the machine does, it doesn't steal echos.

I think they're trying to imply that primals are still beholden to someone with a strong will, even people who don't have an echo.

That makes more sense. There could probably be a difference between Primals summoned into existence with their own body and people who become Primals themselves. I've noticed that people who become Primals don't attempt to temper anyone. Not sure if they can't or if they choose not to since they don't really need help to keep a coporeal form.

On the note of the discussion of Primals and their influence upon the individual, bear in mind that a Primal's very existence is, at its core, entirely predicated upon belief in the entity in question. Thus, it can easily be extrapolated and understood by the multiple examples of this exact thing happening since Heavensward that if an individual specifically believes themselves to be any particular identity, they will become that entity, provided that all the other catalysts for the summoning of a Primal are present. And because the individual embraces this belief, they most likely will retain full cognizance and will not undergo some form of self-Tempering by embodying a Primal. The only SLIGHT case to the contrary is with that one Kobold and the whole subplot surrounding him and Alisaie before she got souljacked to the First, but, even then, that half-assed Titan summon still partially had some of that kid's cognizance despite the fact that he was clearly mad with grief.

In all the years I've been keeping up with this game, the devil's always in the details for this sort of thing. As hit and miss as the story itself gets from time to time, the worldbuilding has almost consistently been superb with all the subtle details and explanations for things that can be gleaned with just a bit of careful observation and critical thinking. For instance, I already had a fairly decent theory since way back in mid-2.x that the whole "Warrior of Light" thing wasn't exactly all that special and it was more just a title that anyone could attain with enough renown and deeds under their belts – that it wasn't just some literal "Jesus Christ" role like a lot of the vocal portion of the fan community seemed to assume it was. The only way I reasoned this out for myself was through considering the fact that we knew even back then that numerous people could possess the Echo, and that everyone was also aware that there were multiple Warriors of Light at the time of Dalamud falling – all of whom we know were mostly average, if consistently successful, adventurers. And it took until post-5.x for the story to directly address that matter and prove my theory correct. In fact, I dare say it's a bit more surprising that we didn't have MORE NPCs awakened to the Echo from witnessing Dalamud's fall and Bahamut's very brief rampage at the time considering that the spectacle was fairly reminiscent of the Final Days.

I think at some point, the subject of the 13th becoming completely engulfed in darkness was a result of not enough warriors of light and the few heroes that did arise to try to save the world were quickly overtaken by the massive shift in aether and became powerful void beings. I have a theory that the more powerful members of void hierarchy were either powerful warriors or heroes in their own right who just became warped by the darkness to become what they are now, with no memory of their previous lives.
