"Suspiciously Wealthy Furries"
The joke that a lot of furries are successful and have money to piss away on frivolous furry gear, art, and the like can be very true, but what if this just isn't the case?Maybe you've heard of the infamous story of the $20,000 furry commission? If you haven't, this video sets a good example as to one of the many ways furries spend that prove some truly don't appreciate the value of money:
From the ridiculously rich to greedy grifters, there's a plethora of poor financial decisions made by furries on the daily. Here, @One Sick Puppy & I will highlight furries who are stupid enough to trash their cash but don't make enough lols to warrant their own threads.
Allow me to start with some obscure drama that can be described as,
"Around Troons, You Lose"
Our story here starts with an Awareness Post by one drawnbydemi as follows:
S / A
Now who was this "she" who was trusted with rent money and spent it all on "herself"?
Now what did this scalie spend the stolen funds on? Well, not rent - but we can take a few guesses:
The financial fuck-up here was trusting a furry (and troon, no less) with monetary responsibility instead of a normal functioning person.
This is just one of many small stories of furry thievery, with many more stories out there begging to be found.
Shifting gears, recall the last screenshot in the "Luxuries" Spoiler?
This is a nice segway to a community that I get most my lulz, drama and horror from;
Babyfurs
Think of it this way, these fuckers base their entire sense of pleasure, sometimes even their sexuality on diapers. These diapers, a majority of the time are single-use, disposable and expensive. To your average businessman, this is great! A consumer base in a niche area that believe they rely on a single-use product in order to get pleasure - almost parallel to cigarettes.
Rough calculations of ~$110/40 is $2.75 per, and with the possibility of multiple diapers used in a day this is a financial black hole, all for the sake of the coom. Don't forget there's expensive custom-made clothes and gear to follow.
This makes for the perfect consoomer:

Kage Otter

(Powerword: Antonio L Casale), if you couldn't tell by the name is an MtF troon by way of AGP:
I can't believe someone would use their first & last name for FA

Now first, let's see how hard the life of this artist is:
To his credit, his form of income is through glass blowing - specifically making & selling marijuana paraphernalia. Unfortunately this business he runs is not registered with the state, so he likely files his taxes and gets health insurance through his wife. The above "Starving Artist" spoiler highlights just how reliable income is for this "business".
Sounds like a hard life, doesn't it? I sure hope Antonio is doing everything he can to help him, his partner and other housemates so he can slow down on the grifting...
As you can see with the massive amount of weed, diapers & gear Antonio possesses, I highly doubt that he could ever afford this much by himself. So what does he do? He relies on everyone around him to pay for his fetishistic, marijuana-dependent and lifelong patient lifestyle so he can blow glass, get high and go to furry conventions - a financial fuck-up on him and everyone who supports his lifestyle.
Moving on, @One Sick Puppy has provided this lovely segment on:
Stupidly Spendy YCHs
Miles-DF
Unfortunately the submission was removed and no one with brains saved it while logged in so the only archives was of a 404 page. I only have these pictures.
The YCH in question.

I know left YCH was bought but I can't seem to find the finished product and who bought it, meaning it was either scrubbed from the internet or never uploaded.

Archive of a commission journal post where he mentions the price of bodyshot to 2 characters, raging from
- $3600 bodyshot
- $5000 one character illustration
- $6980 two characters illustration

Another YCH that's currently ongoing, just look at those super reasonable and sane prices.

JRVanEsbroek, another mentally ill furry artist, paid for 2 slots on this. Some info on him: TL;DR, artist who used to beg almost daily on tumblr on how he needed money, despite making plenty of it with his own art) This is what that charming individual looks like. https://jayisbutts.com/post/171025689417/why-is-this-sidewaysmy-moms-in-the-process-of

For just $6500 you can get your very own mediocre piece of art featuring your fursona!

This picture was uploaded in 2013 and became bit of a mockery and controversy due to the price and what the final product ended up looking like. (407 comments on this YCH)
And the final product?

This abomination of an OC with a radioactive looking dick and obnoxious color pattern. The guy spent $1325 on this.
Thank you, @One Sick Puppy , very cool! I would consider these to be financial fuck-ups due to the absolutely inflated price. $7500, let alone $1325, is far too much to spend on art that an artist who is lesser-known but just as skilled could do just as good a job on for a fraction of the price! I suppose just like in reality, the brand (artist) and its popularity make up a big piece of the price tag.
For our last bit of the financial fiascos, get ready to see a frenzy of:
Fursuits
From e-begging to the fursuit marketplace itself, there's always something outrageous around the corner. To start, searching "fursuit" in GoFundMe renders some rather pathetic results:

To end on a high note, let's see what Etsy & The Dealer's Den has to offer:

Fursuits, as any furry will tell you, are a tricky thing. Many furs can tell you of suitmakers taking money and running, or clients receiving a suit of quality that wasn't what they paid for. Buying a fursuit oftentimes is a gamble and/or financial risk should the maker disappear, have lesser skill than advertised, or the owner takes poor care of their suit to the point where it grows mold or permanently stinks.
In closing, furries are very creative in the art of blowing their bucks on a number of things in a number of ways! This thread invites its readers to share what they see/have seen in the fandom where big, small and/or interesting monetary Ls have been taken.
