you know what game we're talking about.

this is another one of nintendo's great duoligies. Fire Emblem The Binding Blade and its prequel The Blazing Blade

the games takes place in the world of ellibe. generations ago, humans and dragons coexisted with each other and lived together in peace, until an event called, The Scouring happened.

a dragon, Idunn, was tortured and her soul butchered by her fellow dragons and was made into a weapon by her own kind against the humans. the eight legends were given eight legendary weapons to combat the dragons, Durandal, Armads, Mulagir, Forblaze, Aureola, Apocalypse, Maltet, and the two blades Eckesachs and the Binding Blade. Hartmut, one of the legends who wielded Eckesachs and the binding blade, fought Idunn. but he could not bring himself to kill her not because she was a dragon, but she was a young girl who was tortured and weaponized by her own kin, so he sealed her away out of pity, ending the scouring.

the eight legends founded kingdoms in the aftermath

Hartmut, wielder of Echeschs and The Binding Blade, founded the kingdom of Bern and became its first king

Roland, wielder of Durandal, founded Lycia

St. Elimine, wielder of Aureola, founded Etruria

Hanon, wielder of Mulagir, founded Sacae

Barigan, wielder of Maltet, founded Ilia

Athos, wielder of forblaze, remained in Arcadia

Bramimond, wielder of Apocalypse, slumbered in the Shrine of Seals in Bern

and Durban, wielder of Armads, settlled in the Western isles.

Over a Millennia has passed. and The Blazing Blade took place

The Blazing Blade

the game follows the adventures of Three lords

and Hector of Ostia from Lycia, wielder of Armads.

Eventually, they meet the two dragon siblings, Ninian and Nils, who are on the run from a league of assassins called, the Black Fang, leaded by Nergal, who wants to use them to summon dragons and take over the world.

later, the black fang are hired by King Desmond of Bern to murder his son, Zephiel, so his daughter Guinevere can be crowned Queen when she grows up. Zephiel was a kind hearted boy who cared about his family, and wishes his father to give him the love and kindness he needs from him. Eliwood, Hector, Lyn, and nino and jaffar who betrayed the black fang, protected Zephiel and drove back the assassins.

After stopping Nergal from summoning the dragons, the blazing blade ends.

Then, The Binding Blade takes place

Zephiel's father, King Desmond, makes another attempt to kill his son by giving him a poisoned drink, zephiel thought his father finally acknowledged that he truly cared about his son, but not before nearly dying from the poison. he was saved by Murdock, who served him since the blazing blade. outraged and traumatized by the betrayal, Zephiel muders his father and becomes the new king of Bern. he loses faith in humanity and decides to start summoning dragons, believing their rule will lead humans to a right path. He eventually finds Idunn anmd plans to awaken her and use her to lay waste to the world. he sends his four dragon generals of Bern, Narcian, Murdock, Galle, and Brunnya to conquer the other lands and continents. among which zephiel enters and kills hector, one of the heroes who protected him from the black fang.

Roy, Eliwood's son, and Hector's daughter, Lilina, find out about Zephiel's madness from Zephiels' sister, Guinevere, and they amass an army to fight back against Bern.

the protagonists are Roy, Eliwood's son, and wielder of The Binding Blade

and Lilina, Hector's daughter, and wielder of Forblaze

Lilina.png

Roy and Lilina's parents can be decided in the blazing blade.

eliwood's wife can be either ninian, flora, or lyn

btw, if you paired Eliwood and Ninian at the end of blazing blade, this means that Roy is part dragon himself.

Hector's wife can be Florina, Farina, Serra, or Lyn.

other characters from the Blazing Blade got married and their kids appear playable. some return playable

Bartre, Karel, and Marcus and Merninus return and are recruitable.

Rath had a Daughter named Sue, Her mother can be Lyn if she is paired with Rath.

Bartre and Karla (Karel's Sister) had a daughter, Fir

Pent and Louise had a son and daughter, Klein and Clarine

Hawkeye had a daughter before passing away, her name is Igrene. she is followed by dark mage Sophia, and Divine Dragon Fae, who Hawkeye also took care of.

Nino had two children, Raigh and Lugh. her husband can be either Jaffar or Erk

Rebecca, had a son named Wolt. her husband can be either Wil, Sain, or Lowen

Canas had a son named Hugh before passing away.

The games had excellent music.

and they were remade in later games

also, the critical animation were very amusing. you know what they say. spin2win

the games were great. and their sprites and animation were recycled for the sacred stones as well.

To be honest, I played all three GBA Fire Emblems and liked them. The one thing that always annoyed me, though, was the support system. Gameplay-wise, I guess it works, but it still doesn't make much logical sense to me. The only way for characters to build a relationship with one another is by being near each other while they're fighting in a war zone. Why don't characters try to mingle with one another when they aren't in battle? It just doesn't make sense to me.

The confidant system in the Persona games works realistically; you do things with other characters during relaxing points in the game, not when you're in the middle of battle. Granted, the FE developers would have to completely overhaul the way the game works to put something like this in, but I still think its worth mentioning.
