FPS games are point and click games where the targets move around and you have to control the camera manually. They became to popularity with wolf 3d and then Doom took it mainstream. Doom's realistic demons drove some school kids crazy and they shot up a school full of bullies. Now we have the full history of FPS what's your all time favorites?

Has any one found any modern FPS releases that have full single player campaigns worth playing? Not faux retro boomer shooters or cinematic games with FPS in between walking simulator segments. Rogue like/lites deserve a special place in hell for taking skinner boxes and turning them into single player games instead of loot boxes fodder.

As a genre, it definitely peaked around Timesplitters for the consoles and peaked around FEAR/Condemned or even Crysis for PC. I only mention Crysis because of the marvel it was in terms of a destructible fps playground.

Didn't play 1942 but i did play BF2 MC and found the disk recently, turns out i was better when i was 8 then i am now.
Battlefield 2 is some high quality fun. Lots of people still playing it on custom servers.

Crysis is awesome and more than just the PC benchmark people memed it into. At least the first half of the game.

@JongleJingle Let me tell you about BF1942. You are piloting a submarine and spot a guy on shore. You drive your submarine up onto the beach and snipe the motherfucker with your rifle from the top of the conning tower. Then you run across Midway Island avoiding gunfire from goddamn zeros and steal a destroyer to replace your beached submarine.

Halo 3 was the peak of FPS. It gave you interesting enemies, good gun play and a variety of weapons/vehicles to play with.

Crysis was neat but lacks depth. Turning invis is broken and you're going to abuse it which makes everything else less valuable and interesting.

I just can't think of anything more after that, that has really changed the genre for the better. The popularity of RO2: Rising Storm maybe? I guess basically the only real advancement in FPS development at this point is all VR stuff.

Edit: Forgot about Ion Fury. Point still stands though.

The circle strafe revival was fun with Wolfenstein New Order and DOOM. But that was nothing new.

There was a game called Sanctum that was a very fun blend of FPS and tower defense with multiplayer. Can strongly recommend that game.

I liked Command & Conquer Renegade. Wouldn't mind another game like that where buildings had purpose and taking them out was important to your strategy.

Oh also STALKER.

I swear to jesus if Anton makes a proper campaign for H3VR it would be SO FUCKIN' GOOD

H3VR in general is so fun to play. The gunplay and intricacy of each gun is simply astounding, it puts 3A games to shame easily. The WW2 era weapon selection alone is an instant buy for me, there's so many. PLUS, mods are growing stronger in H3, so sooner or later I will FINALLY attain the Aliens Pulse Rifle in VR properly.

Couldn't agree more with the circle strafe revival. Was short lived but fun. Boomer shooters that were coming out, were pretty good too. I know there's still some on the horizion but I feel like they've kinda peaked again already. Oh right and never can forget about STALKER(Such is life in the zone?). Also holy shit! Someone else that talks about Renegade haha. I used to LAN that all the time with my nerdy friends.

I know right? Why doesn't he just hire someone already to do the level designs or something? He's terrible at game design, but the man can make a really tantalizing weapons simulator though. That's really all VR needs at this point. Either something like a boomer shooter that isn't a mod or something like h3vr with a proper campaign and HL:Alyx levels of world interaction.

Honestly with consoles it's easily urban chaos: riot response and timesplitters PC was as others have mentioned F.E.A.R and bf2 for online. As for black @The Last Stand would recommend raycevick vid on it and the examined life of gaming vid on black
