Science Flat-Earther to blast off in homemade, steam-powered rocket -

Rocket science uses calculations based on how the Earth's pull decreases with altitude because the Earth is a sphere. If nutjob's calculations are based on a more constant pull of gravity, because the Earth is flat, then shouldn't he gain higher altitude than expected? Just curious.
Found the globee!

LOL calculations.
If you want calculations, special and general relativity also shows two types of time dilation, and one wouldn't work out on a flat earth, and the effect is measurable, and has been measured.

One slows down time as you get closer to the surface (more gravity = slower time) and the other slows down time as you get further away (moving faster relative to the surface = slower time).

Steampunk astronaut dude needs to make sure he has a good stopwatch and maybe he can further debunk Einstein.

Hey why not go big.

But I think proving the Earth is frisbee shaped would wreck a lot of science.

Yeah, I know I assumed a LOT with this astronut.
How about this assumption: "Steam make me go up. I need more up." ... "Hmmm... no go up no see Earth Frisbee. Need more up" (rinse/repeat)
That sounds about right to me.

So what do we do if he goes up there and takes pictures of the frisbee edge and ice wall, maybe cracks the firmament? I know I'll feel like a real idiot for doubting him.

why would flat earth imply constant gravity regardless of altitude
It wouldn't, but the center of gravity would be in a completely different location throwing off the calculation, and you'd also fall towards the center - aka "why do I keep sliding towards the Atlantic Ocean? This is inconvenient."

iirc flat earth explains gravity as an effect of the earth-disc accelerating upward. obviously gravity doesn't exist as a force because they can't take a picture of it with a gopro.

edit- don't want to backseat moderate but should this be part of the flat earth society thread? it's a funny topic and i'm sad that thread isn't more active.

It depends on the specific version of flat earth you're looking at.

Some have the entire force of gravity generated via constant acceleration of the earth-disc. Of course, there are numerous issues with such a theory, but then, they are flat earthers...
Constant acceleration at 9.8 m/s*s for 6000 years would have the Frisbee moving vertically at 10^13 times the speed of light or something absurd like that, for one. God certainly works in mysterious (and needlessly complicated) ways.

Not saying an omnipotent being COULDN'T do it, but why would they?
