i know you're incredibly mad right now but honestly giving people food isn't a terrible idea. food stamps get fucked with. i used to trade some for weed when i qualified as an independent adult in college. that shit shouldn't happen, so giving people food directly isn't a bad idea. on it's face, this seems alright.

the problem is, the government will be running it. and those fuckers can't do anything right. so it'll probably be disgusting slop that sometimes arrives and sometimes doesn't. then we'll all get a news report in 10 years about how poor people are being fed dogshit and tires irregularly so some bureaucrats at the agency can get a pay raise.

She constantly posts long videos of herself talking about her personal life, and it seems like she only buys high end organic shit with a lean towards veganism and holistic foods. IIRC in some places, they charge like a $1 grill fee that can't be paid with EBT so they can get around the "no prepared foods" law.

We've got a popular pizza chain around here called Papa Murphy's. They make pretty great pizzas, but don't cook them, and wrap them up with baking instructions to sell cold. I guess cold or uncooked fast food falls under what you can buy with EBT, and they've built a pretty successful franchise around it. Otherwise, the pizzas aren't really cheap. My girlfriend and I both have reasonable income for the area and we only get it as a random treat, because you can't walk out of there without spending $20.

It's not literal genocide but it is unfair to the disabled, the elderly and children of people on welfare assistance. None of which can help recieving food benefits. There are people who abuse the system and it sucks (the work requirement for food stamps should help with this) but to punish everyone including people who legit need the safety net is fucked up.

Also, if you don’t have it, there will be an increase in crime, which will mean higher insurance premiums, higher taxes to pay for law enforcement, etcetera. There’s a selfish incentive to keep EBT up and running, so it’s not just because of some wish-washy desire to do good.

Sure it's unfair, but this program is already outside the realm of what the US government was delegated to do. Considering that, exchanging currency for actual food (what the money was intended to buy) will inherently eliminate a ton of fraud because the food itself isn't as valuable on the street as the EBT card. You're not taking food out of people's mouths, you're taking the money out of their hand and replacing it with food. Speaking on how it may be inefficient and cost more than the fraud itself, Amazon Grocery is available in my area and is immensely successful and often as cheap as local markets. They even pay their people pretty competitive wages, including low end drivers, clerks, etc. They'd be better off cutting food assistance off at the federal level, handing it to the states, and allowing them to privatize the distribution system.
