I'd love to see fraud and scams involving food stamps to be punished far more severely than they already are. That said, it's fucked up to want take something away from everyone--including the majority who needs it--rather than just kicking out the minority of abusers of the program and charging them with a crime.

Many recipients of food stamps are the elderly, the disabled, and the children of parents receiving welfare benefits, none of which can necessarily go right out and 'get a job' and solve their food supply problem.

This is basically a Wal-Mart subsidy, or at least was before even Wal-Mart developed whatever it is, whether a conscience or mere realization that its bad reputation was costing it money, and actually started bringing their wages up to something approaching parity with the labor market.
