The nightmare before christmas was at one point going to be released as the in house Disney animated movie for 1993 since lion king was pushed back to 1994 but due to Disney at the time finding nightmare "too dark." It was instead released under the touchstone label and 1993 is one of the few years since 1986 to not have an in house Disney animated film (part of the animated release lineup starting with snow white in 1937)

It was released under the walt disney pictures and some studio Henry selick started after Nightmare forget the name at the moment but think of it like how they used touchstone and hollywood pictures studios as shell companies to release movies they wouldn't normally make.
Like I said before he up and left katzenburg suggested even tried to get nightmare released as the animated in house film of 93 but once he was gone and Eisner took the reigns he wanted nightmare published under touchstone because he found it "too dark" to bear the walt disney pictures name. It wasn't until after he was gone was the film rereleased Walt Disney pictures like originally intended.
