Komodo dragons are actually venomous. The bacteria in their mouths has very little to do with their deadly bite
This debate is actually still ongoing, and there are some scientists that doubt the venom plays a big role in the way komodo dragons hunt. Komodo dragons when they are hunting do seem to try and take down prey immediately and dont let it go on purpose, they are just as likely to rip somethings throat out before any venom takes effect. The ones that do escape seem to just die from the trauma from the initial attack. Komodo dragons eat carrion mostly so they can just find it later and go to town.

In the early 1900s before electricity was widespread, lighting was done with oil (kerosene) lamps. Some of the fancier lighting was done with "hollow-wire lighting", where your house is plumbed with thin tubing connecting to a gasoline tank, which was then pumped up to pump the gas to mantle lights throughout the building. You essentially turned your house into a giant Coleman Lantern.

A similar system used calcium carbide to produce acetylene, which was then piped around to torches around the house. These didn't need mantles as they produces a very bright flame, but any welder can tell you that acetylene gets explosive if a leak happens.

Speaking of lantern mantles, up until the 1980s, the mantles used Thorium salts to produce incandescent light. Newer mantles use Yittrium at the sacrifice of no being as resilient or bright.

Marlboro cigarettes were initially marketed to women as a ladies brand with a distinct red filter that wouldn't smudge with lipstick. The marketing changed because the female exclusive advertising wasn't producing the sales numbers Philip Morris had hoped for.

Similarly Dodge had a car produced from 1955 to 1956 called the la femme

It was marketed for being compact and easy to handle with a purse built into the seats it was discontinued in a year and sold poorly

As of 2020 all the men involved with the creation of Batman and the Joker including future artist on the comics dick sprang passed away. With Stan Lee's death there's now no famous creator from the gold or silver age of comics left alive.

Before it became synonymous with the spider man comics daily bugle was a common name for newspapers in comic books because no actual publication would allow their name and likeness to be used by comic publishers, who newspapers saw as an "inferior tabloid". At the time

Many comics from the gold and silver age are so rare and valuable because during wartimes paper recycling drives often received comic books more than any other periodical for recycling.
That explains why the Daily Bugle is the name of the paper in the white supremacist New World Order Comix. It doesn't explain why the main character's girlfriend is named Lois Lane however. It's pretty wild to be reading a comic where characters talk about how 'groids need to get back in the trees and see common mainstream comic book names being dropped.

The intellectuals are almost always the first to be purged when Socialism/communism becomes the dominant system in a country. The quality of life in socialist countries sharply declines in less than five years following a supposed "boom period." Socialist countries have had higher rates of depression and suicide than capitalist or non partizan countries.
The Soviet Union and many countries that followed their lead were also spectacularly restrictive towards artists and the type of art that was allowed. Abstract art was banned in the USSR and futurists couldn't get work. The Cuban government under Fidel banned punk rock. Remember that next time you listen to western communist or socialist artists like Rage Against the Machine.

That's a sexy looking car though. 50's cars were so stylish.

John Wayne died of cancer but the jury is out wether he contacted it from years of smoking or if it was due to the filming of the conquerer. A biopic about Genghis Khan that was filmed downwind from a nuclear weapon testing site and a former testing site that was considered "safe and habitable." Everyone who worked on the set of the film contracted and has died of cancer.

Luc Besson, the director of The Fifth Element who is credited with having co-written it with Robert Kamen, actually wrote the first screenplay when he was 16. He imagined the world the film exists in, and a story vaguely resembling the finished product, to cure his boredom.
So I know this an old olld post but on a similar note...

The creator of the cartoon Network show mighty magiswords created the characters and the world when he was a senior in high school and it took 20 years for it to become a show. Also the original concept was much darker and more mature, almost like an adult swim version of he man.

Super minor fact that everyone probably know already: the keyboardist for The Police was the one who wrote the music for the original Spyro trilogy and the Amanda Show. There’s a track in the first Spyro game (I think it’s the haunted towers?) that sounds exactly like the main running theme that’d play on the Amanda show whenever she’d walk in. It’s weird

You mean Stewart Copeland? He was mainly famous as the drummer.

Yep! Sorry, I’m not really all too familiar with them, so I didn’t really know what role he played in the band. He can make some pretty great songs by himself though, even if he recycled bits and pieces from his other songs to make them.
Similarly the music for the crash bandicoot games was composed by Mark mothersburg who while the lead singer of Devo was at the time doing the music for Rugrats on Nickelodeon.

He's also known for his fantastic work on Wes Anderson's films including the (full length) Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, and that other movie I don't want to think about.

Tobe hopper originally wanted the Texas chainsaw massacre to be rated PG and more like a human version of the later film jaws, ironically jaws has much more blood and even gore than the nearly bloodless TCM and was still only rated PG.

The Texas chainsaw massacre was partly funded by the Mafia. Bryston pictures was originally a money laundering company the mafia used to move dirty money. It was also the production company behind the making and distribution of deep throat one of the earliest wide released pornographic films.

Gunnar Hanson the actor playing leatherface actually cut his leg while filming the final scene of the Texas chainsaw massacre, he had a scar on his leg for the remainder of his life.

The agents of Renee zelwegger and Matthew macconahey actually managed to block the release of the Texas chainsaw massacre 4 aka the next generation because they believed it would ruin their at the time rising careers.

Motel hell was at one point considered to be a Texas chainsaw massacre sequel but became its own film when director Tobe Hooper left the production.

A whorehouse in Borneo was only shut down after a "customer" reported that one of the prostitutes working there instead of an underaged ladyboy, was a rare Asian orangutan with all her hair shaved off.

Sailors used to have have sex with "seacows" aka manatees and dugongs because they poses genitalia almost indistinguishable from that of human women. Said sailors would then claim it was sirens and or mermaids that seduced them to avoid having to admit "yeah I fucked a sea mammal."

A solider in Russia was killed by a raccoon after he tried to drunkenly have sex with it, after being cucked by his squad mates, who were another man and one of the few new female recruits in the Russian military at the time.
