And no, I am not dumb enough to eat it. :P

It has a rubbery texture. Thick but a bit fragile. Smells like anise. There are nine of them and they sprung up in a few days time. They are going to be removed soon. They actually came up last summer as well. And that was the first time they have ever been seen in the yard.

The shrooms are a bit lighter in color than the pics imply. Two of them are huge. They only grow in that spot. No idea why. They are ground mushrooms and weren't hard to dig up last summer. I don't know if spores were left in the ground or spores are coming from somewhere else. I don't see these around anywhere but this yard and I have never seen them before anywhere. I am in Philly. I don't even know if these things are native or what.

These were the best pics I could get with the front facing camera. I don't take my tablet out of the case. If you need better ones I can get them though.

I have an idea but I need more pictures. They should include the base of growth, a size reference, the underside of the shelf and an image of the larger surrounding area. If they are what I think they might be you would be lucky because they are delicious.

I've always hated eating mushrooms...bleh. My parents used to grow them, and put them into salads and other foods.

Are you talking about truffles? I thought those things were supposed to be growing deep in the woods?

Eat it and find out. I'm pretty certain it won't kill you.*

Not me. I spent several years studying and foraging mushrooms in northern New England. I came across wonderful species. Chicken mushrooms, hens of the woods, turkey tails and chantrelles. Wild mushrooms are delicious. It just takes a lot of hard work to gain enough knowledge to tell the good varieties from their sometimes toxic look a likes.

Is that the top? If not, send me the top. If it is, send me the bottom.
E-I almost want to say, turkey tail? It's probably harmless, most dangerous mushrooms look kind of dangerous. We're they on a tree or under one? What kind of tree?
