The rabbit was eventually rehomed but having read this, I'm honestly rather disgusted with the attitude that Gabe showed towards that poor creature. He clearly loved the dog more than it (probably because it would be much easier to fuck than the rabbit) and it shows. His deflection on how he handled the situation is also reprehensible since it's clear he doesn't want to show any form of responsibility for the animal.

I could excuse it for a year, but if after that you can't find work as an extra, consider moving to Los Angeles, and if that fails, try Georgia, which is also a major hub for the movie industry LIC. In all cases, Gabe could've easily found work in the bay area doing gig jobs like he mentioned prior.

Though, as a former Californian, his first mistake was moving to the Bay Area period. Unless you're part of a start up, or trying to get work at a major tech company, the Bay Area is honestly a shit hole for trying to start fresh.

I'll play devil's advocate a bit about the rabbit thing. While I never personally owned a pet rabbit, I've been around them plenty (enough to know that I probably don't want one) and there's plenty of documentation online about how they are to be kept. The tl;dr is that caring for a rabbit is a tremendous pain in the ass.

The stuff about the rabbit being a loner with no interest in being friends with any other animals lines up with what I've read. Some rabbits are just that way and will only tolerate the companionship of their human owners (there's a strong likelihood that the shelter tried introducing her to other bunnies in a controlled setting and documented in its files that it was a free spirit). The fact that she had a big outdoor enclosure instead of the run of the house is somewhat telling; I end up wondering if the rabbit was ever really part of the household at all or if she was only there for the sake of having a rabbit. Did that bunny ever got any attention other than when it was time for her weekly brushing?

I get that the bunny was a rescue. Rescue animals are a thing and they come with baggage, much of it emotional shit arising from trauma, neglect and/or abuse. Rescue dogs can require a tremendous amount of love and patience before they become good dogs and I imagine the same is true for rescue rabbits. I also get that rabbits are high-maintenance little whirlwinds of destruction even if they're not rescues; it is imperative that you rabbit-proof if you are going to have a bunny in your home rather than just let it wander around outside and be more of a lawn ornament than a pet. I also get that rabbits are fucking expensive to keep around even when they're not dining on your home theater system's optical cables every evening; vets who work on more "exotic" critters tend to be pricier and harder to find and the food's less common (and more expensive) in stores as well. I even get that finding a shelter willing to take a rabbit in can be difficult due to there being a limited number of bunny shelters and a fuckton of owners who took in a rabbit only to realize that they couldn't deal with its needs.

I can completely sympathize with the fact that the rabbit was a problem pet. There's a possibility that it was a white elephant that came with the marriage and Gabe didn't really have a choice except to deal with the fact that half the backyard was bunny territory if he was going to marry Deb. There's an even higher possibility that Deb was as much at fault as Gabe was for getting the damn thing in the first place and throwing it out back in hopes that it would find emotional peace by sitting around alone and forgotten about in a suburban backyard. What does get to me is that Gabe appears to have never given a damn about the animal in the first place; when he didn't instantly get the answers he wanted re: re-homing the rabbit he skipped right ahead to fantasizing about feeding his family's pet bunny to a fucking snake.
