This is the first video I watched.
It got played a lot in the synchtube room I used to use. Back in 2010 there was that "GEE" SNSD song which got played on 4chan's /v/ for april fool's day or some other event, and because we were a /v/ room someone decided to put this video on the playlist. It ended up on regular rotation and from there we started playing more. It got to a point where if we had a lot of new users on and we felt like getting rid of 'em we'd clear the playlist, make videos unskippable and fill it with gachimuchi for an hour or so. It took a few years for it to really catch on outside of NND but I'm glad it did. One of my great memories from back then is waiting up all night for a New Year collaboration video to get uploaded.
To me it's brilliant how Billy Herrington embraced it and understood the creativity where so many other people would've got shitty about it. A really amazing, cool guy.

a lot of popular gachimuchis that were simple visuals and ass slapping over the song's beat back in the day were created by this fellow: http://www.nicovideo.jp/mylist/1436313 - like all of the mega man covers / banjo kazooie covers / pokemon covers / some legend of zelda covers / kirby covers etc

The best way to look for gachimuchi on youtube is to look for the niconico "sn" number

Billy being gone still hurts, he was our own organic celebrity, not some narcissist pushed into the spotlight by media interests, he was chosen by the people. He loved the fans and he had such a good attitude about life. I never truly understood how people felt when a famous person they admired died until Billy was taken. Rest in peace, Aniki.
