You would think he would have at least a bit of knowledge about Japan after working there for a bit. I guess being a major weeb he probably just went to Akihabara and did other stupid weeb shit while making no effort to meet any Japanese people or actually take in some of the culture. Also something to keep in mind it takes basically no skill to teach English in Japan. Anyone with a college degree in literally anything can get hired as an English teacher since they want them so badly, too bad a lot of them are lazy weebs that suck at teaching, have poor social skills and probably can't speak Japanese beyond some of the very basic phrases. Believe me, I've heard from some Japanese people about how shitty the English teachers from the US are, and they won't explain something in Japanese if the students can't understand it, because they don't know how.

I heard knowing Japanese is not required. I'm not sure how that would work.

Back on topic, I think I first heard of him during Game Theory's video about Final Fantasy and religion arguing that Square Enix must have something against organized religion. I remember thinking that they were way off base with their theory but I don't remember, I'll link it if I don't feel too lazy.

I only knew of his Goomba got Back video which I thought could no doubt be cringy. Only videos of his that I did watch was a couple videos that focused on sexuality and how Japan handles it differently compared to the west, especially with the second one saying how hypocritical it is that people get up in arms over a nipple being shown in a video game but not getting up in arms when someone gets their head blown off in a video game. One video I did remember seeing that I felt could come off as stupid was this:

From what I seen (and what he came to conclusion), he said the first Punch Out was bad in its racism with Soda Popinski's original name and a Italian boxer named Pizza Pasta, all due to stereotypes. He then moves to the NES game saying how the characters all are going by the stereotypes like Glass Joe being the weak French and Piston Honda saying random Japanese.

He complained in one video, the one where he dissects the video "Me! Me! Me!" how he could relate to the protagonist because when he taught English in Japan this is how he was. He'd go to work, never hung out with anybody Japanese or otherwise, and went back to his lonely apartment at the end of the night and descended into a fantasy life. It's people like that that I just want to punch to get their attention. They're in fucking Japan. Here is their weeby dream all wrapped up in a nice bow. There are women out there willing to have sex with you because you're a foreigner. Okay, your mileage may vary and it might take a little work on your part but it's doable. Most people you meet will be friendly if coldly polite. I've known people that have asked a Japanese national for directions and they've actually taken them to their destination even if it was several blocks away.

There's simply no excuse for being a foreigner in Japan and closing yourself up in your apartment.

the word you are looking for is otaku most likely
gaijin just means foreigner, aka, not japanese (literally outside person)
it's a big deal because let's face it, japan is still rather racist and xenophobic. to the point where it makes me, as an american, feel better about the US.
although you wouldn't use otaku in the japanese sense, but in the english sense (which is better imo)

as i remember it. otaku in the japanese meaning of the word is someone who is over obsessive of something
it could mean someone who overworks, over studies, or just spends an unhealthy amount of time with.
in english it means someone who thinks of japan too fucking much
GG just might be an otaku, what's more japan loving than, living in japan, and speaking japanese fluently enough to hold a job where you have to use it every day.

it takes all types to make the world, so i'm not going to fault him for living there and fitting in (you can never truly fit in though)
at least the guy talks about shit other than japan.

Just because he likes his games? That's a bit harsh, man. I actually like his videos and Game Theory.

Because he is incredibly ignorant of how little Inafune has ever done as a game maker. I was exaggerating for comedic effect. The real reason I never watched more was because he seemed like a nasally, whiny, boring nerd. Which I personally feel I was right. I feel the same about Game Theory but I get that that one has an audience and I understand why.

I honestly don't really understand what his videos are about. I mean I know they're supposed to teach people about cultural influences in games, but I just don't understand what he's going for, if that makes sense. Most of the things he covers are fairly blatant and well known, or are a complete shot in the dark when it comes to connecting them to the game. I guess I can appreciate the information but really I just don't see the appeal of making a whole video pointing out references in games.
