So I brought GameMaker Studio from one of those Humble Bundles a few years back and I wanna give it a try. What do you recommend I start with? Are there tutorials or games I can rip off?

This guy is actually pretty good for babby's first GameMaker. If your GameMaker bundle came with GameMaker games, they most likely have the source files so you can crack them open and see for yourself how the games work. Mine did, at least.

I think I'll start with an horizontal platformer. Been doing some sprite stuff today.

Yes, undertale is made in Gamemaker Studio, but i doubt Toby himself officially released the full source code.

Doesn't need to. Someone was able to reverse engineering and decompile the game down to the assets and bare files needed for Gamemaker.

I really expected you to make a game based on the kiwi farms user school shooting.
Easier said than done. I downloaded some paltformer engines, which are supposed to be easy to manipulate and I'm sill trying to figure out what does what. Problem is time.
I can always reskin.
GameMaker is a fine engine for 2D stuff. Start with a simple concept, have clearly defined goals and keep iterating. Don't get bogged down in tutorials unless you fail to grasp fundamental concepts. The last 10% of a game is the hardest.
