GAMER GIRL is a chilling FMV thriller game set in the world of online streaming

If it’s an FMV thriller you’re after, then chances are Wales Interactive are behind it. And even though their chilling Maid of Sker is set to launch real soon, Wales Interactive are continuing on with further experiences, with the latest announcement focused fully on Gamer Girl.

Due to come to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC this September, Gamer Girl is the next chilling FMV thriller that features livestream simulation. Developed by the team at FMV Future, and pushed out in publishing terms by Wales Interactive, Gamer Girl is set in the world of online streaming.

Provided by the writer and director behind The Bunker, Gamer Girl will come Xbox One, PC, PS4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch as you adopt the role of a moderator for up and coming streamer ‘Abicake99’, who’s back online after the mysterious disappearance of her friend Becky. As with most other FMV experiences, you should expect to find Gamer Girl featuring multi-branched narrative and real-time chat simulation, as your role as moderator sees you controlling the stream, levelling up mod powers, guiding Abi’s choices and uncovering the threat she faces by an anonymous predator who hides in the stream’s chat.

Gamer Girl is the first live-action video game to have been entirely improvised by the cast, in a production style similar to what was found in The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. You see, throughout development the actors would react to pre-scripted stream text as well as live chat that was written during film takes by the scriptwriter. It’ll star Alexandra Burton as Abi, and features David Wayman, Rebecca Calienda, and Sofia Maffei with cameos by real streamers including CyborgAngel.

It is also the first multi-branching FMV video game with a micro-management meta-game – where players constantly have to analyse and react to a constant stream of chat comments whilst texting Abi and helping her make the right choices.

This will work with you focusing on the following ideas:

  • Manage the user’s comments in the chat stream
  • Choose to reward them for good behaviour & ban them for trolling
  • Unlock more powerful moderator abilities as you progress
  • Earn Candies, likes and subs to keep Abicake99’s mood positive
  • Increase Abicake99’s viewers and subscribers to keep her career on track
  • Make the channel a success to earn upgrades
  • Warn, ban and reward comments in the chat stream
  • If you fail Abi will kick you off the stream and it is GAME OVER

And there will also be a pretty branching narrative in place with Gamer Girl delivering multiple story paths and hundreds of choices and permutations. It will be here where players help Abi choose which activities they think would further her streaming career or enhance her mood – workout sessions, gaming, cosplay, chill streams, IRL trips, board games, chibis drawing (ちび or チビ), etc.

Just remember though, for every decision made, there will be a consequence to take hold. Should you encourage drama to increase Abi’s ratings or take the safe path but risk losing viewers?

The funniest part in the trailer is when they show the fucking development flowchat for the story, like they're screaming "LOOK AT ALL THESE CHOICES" :story:

Damn, I was almost faster in posting the thread. The whole concept and idea is incredibly stupid, and I wouldn't even play this garbage for free. Also, here's the video description:

Oh, evil internet stalkers? Perhaps this forum can finally get a shout-out in a video game for once!

Another bummer. When will americans learn that just because a girl's BMI is lower than 35 they aren't necessarily a 'hottie'. I see it way too often. This is a 6 kiddos, nothing particularly bad, nothing particularly good either. Chances are most of us look about like this unless you have a couple good features that break from the norm.

The fact this got so far in dev is a testament to how assheaded and disconnected from reality these people are. Everyone hates internet janitors, and there's no way in hell anyone wants to play as one. You could make a more enjoyable game where you play dentist.

Wait what? I mean sure this deals with a cringy concept but I gotta give credit where it's due its creative at least.

Tbh the response should be more neutral.

But then again, I'm a game reviewer. I have to be unbiased. *cough* IGN *cough*
Honestly I'm not sure what's creative about FMV "games", if anything, they strike me more as lazy and uninspired. Even the "good" recent ones like Late Shift or Her Story are pretty boring, usually not having more going for them than being pretty and having a story. (Not better than a movie anyway.). If this releases it's probably going to be a trash fire.

Ah, yes. I finally get to live my dream of becoming a jannie for some random thot on the Internet I'll probably never ever meet in real life. Truly a masterpiece in the works.

Also, could they have picked a better title? Seriously, every time I hear "Gamer Girl" now, I think of a certain Delphine and gross bath water. And pee. And a Negative XP song that probably exists somewhere.

This will be Night Trap level awful.

You know what... as dumb as that game was, I think in this context it's an unfair comparison to make.

Night Trap, while being cringy, was really nothing more than an interactive campy horror (and I use that term as loosely as possible) movie. Also, you're not SUPPOSED to watch the cutscenes that happen in the house... you most certainly have the option to do so, but doing so will make it easier for you to lose the game.

This "Gamer Girl" game is COMPLETELY different. Gamers fucking HATE e-thots, especially ones that call themselves "Gamer Girls", but they made a game about it anyway... and are selling it on an actual fucking console no less. This is pretty much game companies going "oh, you have a problem with Gamer Girls? Too bad, here's a game about one.", so you're forced to watch her do random (probably stupid) shit. They did this with Trannies with TLoU 2, they did it with furry trannies and "otherkins" in "Goodbye Volcano High" and now this shit. I'm actually fucking shocked this "Gamer Girl" isn't a tranny herself thats based on that fucking deer that's running Twitch now. You can't even call this parody, all of this shit is way beyond parody at this point.

Seriously, if anyone want's some stupid FMV game to keep them entertained aside from all the Sega CD and old-skool PC shit, play Simulacra instead... it's even on iPhone and Android.

I dunno, I like Choose Your Own Adventure style games, however those work just fine in text. If you're going to do it in FMV, that addition has to bring something really entertaining to the table to be worth it.

I really liked Her Story, and The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker was well done. Contradiction was kind of limited, but the acting went over-the-top, which made it fun. The Tex Murphy game series are point-and-clicks combined with FMV, done really well if you like both genres.

But the common link between all of the above games is a unique, atmospheric mystery to solve. I don't see anything unique in Gamer Girl, it looks like a basic stalker thriller with a moderator mini-game. The atmosphere or fun would have to come from the acting, or characters, and nothing stands out there either. Hell, if you wanted CYOA gameplay with cleavage, even Doctor Dekker is a better option.

The only new thing here is slightly better technology for the framing device and camera work, and that's not enough to be entertaining. Pass.
