There doesn't seem to be a discussion about games GK should play so I thought I'd make one. Many people suggest games to GK but we have no idea what their reasoning was behind it. I'm hoping with this kind of thread we can exchange ideas on what type of games might be fun to watch GK play and why. I was one of the people hoping he'd play Sims 3 but.. holy shit, that really backfired. Yet games like Another World revealed quite a bit about Jay. He had difficulty with some of the basic behind the game (I think he was on easy setting too) and often had to be fed the answer to puzzles repeatedly and even then people had to be insistent and walk him through them. We got to see his ego slow him down.

Things I've learned about watching GK's streams
- He loves control. He loves the sense that he's controlling someone's life or fate.
- His ego makes it difficult for him to be in a position where he isn't the leader.
- He doesn't really enjoy the feeling of overcoming a challenge but would rather mindlessly kill or slaughter with very little risk involved.
- Jay can't Mary Sue very well because he's too occupied with the idea of playing god with his avatar or other NPCs.
- He can't seem to adapt well to shifting situations.

I think the best games to suggest are ones that give and take. Ones that offer something he'd love while also taking him out of his comfort zone a bit. So if someone were able to convince him to play a game where he had total control over something but it was also multiplayer so the situation would constantly shift due to the other players then we might get a more interesting reaction from Jay. I'm not suggesting anything to get him to chimp out but just become more involved and have more reason to react and not quietly stare at the screen.

Jay is also pretty damn sadistic but a coward. Maybe suggest games that offer moral choices where being good doesn't automatically mean the right or easy way. In some games being the good guy actually means having to make sacrifices while being evil is more personally beneficially and easier.

Also his gaming rig sucks so streaming recent high end games it out of the question.

Any game ideas? Any observations?

I suggested Dark Souls because it is one of those games people talk about just to feel like a hardcore, ruthless, badass hero or slayer of evil. It's a game where the rewards are worth it and you use your very own reflexes and wit to defeat something ten times your size, all while going down the path of a hero (sort of). For others, it's still fun as a bloody, slashy mess. Your ultimate goal is to conquer all evil, something he constantly brags about.

I'd only like to see him play it so his world is shattered that he is not the best gamer despite it being his only 'skill', and that he's not a hero and not very bright. I'm not saying people who don't like or aren't good at the game are like that, but Jay's ego is so bloated that it's nice to see him taken down a notch like with Another World. It would just probably end in him ragequitting and having a silent tantrum and just ending the stream, but there may be some amusement during it, if he was even able to make it past the beginning level.

Wolf Among Us sounds like another perfect game for him to try; we all know he'd choose the ruder, darker path of being an asshole since he's nowhere near being a hero in anything he does.

Obamatron suggested that I ask him about playing Rocksmith again. He said that fans say they didn't like it cause he didn't talk. I suggested that he also sing along with the songs, just to see if people like it. But I guess he has audio problems, cause his guitar plugin for the game somehow blocks out audio that is recorded from whatever microphone he uses

That would be a funny 30 minute thing if we could get him to sing.

Games I can think of...

Black and White 2 - You're a god and it can be tempting to be evil since it's often a faster way of conquering. The interesting aspect would be to see what how evil Jay would be. You can teach your creature to eat and throw around your followers if you want. Would he create slums so he can support a higher population to fuel his armies or would he build villas and create happy citizens so other towns would become so impressed they'd convert to worshipping him? What if Jay was so neglectful that his followers left him?

Fable 3 - While it isn't the best in the series it's theme in the end is how much would you sacrifice to save your kingdom? It's possible to beat this game without losing a single citizen AND choosing all possible good outcomes but it's easier to break promises and exploit people to achieve this. Will he turn that old mansion into an orphanage that will make him more loved or a highly profitable bordello that will allow him to afford better defenses? Er... fuck, we should probably hope he doesn't choose the orphanage.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War / Any expansions - Someone else suggested it and the more I think about it the better it sounds like a good multiplayer idea. It's an RTS, a really violent one. Jay would get off on the bloodshed and have to adapt to his fans zerging him with Orks or slowly marching towards him as Necrons. How would he react when he just can't find where those Eldar units are coming from? Seriously, if anyone has gone against a skilled Eldar player they can be frustrating as hell. They can hide their bases and also teleport them.

Although what sucks is Jay doesn't want to pirate any games so... blah. I think those are all 2005-2010 so maybe they'd be cheap enough for him to splurge on since he's got a job now.

Brutal Doom mod for Doom. The original Doom was gory but Brutal Doom takes the blood and violence up to eleven. It's also quite difficult though I think he would just cheat his way through.

I'm only marginally acquainted with GK, so I can't guarantee this game will synergize with his psych profile, but I'm going to suggest "Ghost Master!"

http://store.steampowered.com/app/6200/

Basically, it's a real time strategy game where you command a team of poltergeists, specters and spooks and stuff. It's from 2006, so it should run on Jay's computer... IIRC, it has some mild puzzle elements for the completionist, but shouldn't be too frustrating for someone on the first playthrough. BTW, its tone tends more towards juvenile than actually scary, so I doubt he'll chicken out, ala FN@F. (did he chicken out of that game, am I remembering that right? Like I said, I don't really follow GK)

But where I'm thinking this game could really hit the JAYckpot, is there's a number of levels where the primary objective is to terrify a sorority full of nubile, scantily clad (possibly barefooted, don't remember) young ladies with supernatural entities. Also, I don't recall if GK has authority-figure issues, but there's levels where you scare the crap out of police officers, doctors & nurses, priests.

And, it's only five bucks on Steam.

Like in the Jace thread, How about Black and White?

You are a god in it! But also fighting other gods! You can play the fun way of smashing villiages and being a dick to get more influence, or you can be nice, which is also a bit boring too.

Edit: Fable may be on the mark too, for the matter...

Xcom: Enemy Unknown
It would put him in lead of small group of soldiers. He'll have that feeling of control, but he could easily lose it if he screws up and sends his guys to the wrong place at the wrong time.

Fire Emblem Awakening
Again, control. He gets to make his own self insert (Robin), control soldiers on the battlefield and he's got no one else to blame if they die.

Not many moral choices in either games, but great ego crushers or boosters depending on how you do.

I second Wolf Among Us because if would force Jay to make difficult choices then confront him with consequences. It would piss him off but still let him imagine himself as a hero.

I'm not sure his computer could run it though.

Another in a similar vein would be the Walking Dead games. Admittedly they'll be a bit slow to stream but it could be fun once you get to the meat of the story. A lot of "I did the right thing and it bit me in the ass" choices which could make for an interesting stream.

My only hesitation with suggesting the Walking Dead is that I think Jay would get bored with it. The Wolf Among Us is paced a little quicker and would really play into Jay's hero fantasy. I have a feeling Jay would get tired of TWD once he realized he couldn't go free-for-all and mow down hundreds of zombies.

I was about to suggest The Walking Dead by Telltale due to the moral lessons that you can learn from there, but then i realized that he'll spend most of the game near a little girl, and i honestly don't want that, i know it sounds absurd, but if this ximple can have fantasies with powerpuff girls, i don't think it's too crazy to imagine that he can have fantasies with Clementine... So yeah, if anything, it should be The Wolf Among Us.

ANY of the Saints Row sequels

2 - After breaking out of prison, The Boss leads a new generation of Saints to take back Stillwater from the three new gangs that have come to fill the void and ultimately fight against the epitome of the industrial-media complex itself as led by a guy who slightly looks like Johnathan Magnum. Naturally, the player character can and is encouraged to get away with a metric fuckton of illegal shit, but progressing through story missions has characters die and things spiral out of The Boss's control, such as how Gat absolutely goes batshit when his girlfriend dies and arguably would piss Jay off by doing the one thing the game doesn't allow the player to do: bury that annoying Yakuza leader's son alive.

3 - The moral choices are kind of trivial given more often than not both options will end up making the player character a dick to some group of people. But the last one...do you choose to sacrifice your allies and Burt Reynolds to go after the egomaniac Killbane, the one man who is possibly the most evil and insane character in the entire fanchise, or do you forego the last chance to get final victory over him and humiliate the paramilitary force trying to frame you for terrorism? Obviously, Jay would choose the former because we've seen him not give a shit about other's sacrifices for his own glory (Catsworth), but the truth is the mission after stopping the paramilitary assholes lets you kill that asshole Killbane anyway.

4 - Stop a nuke and become president is the first mission...and then Zinyak shows up and completely fucks that shit up. Oh, and he also destroys Earth because The Boss ignored the warning that trying to escape would only end up in Earth's destruction. Really, Zinyak actually is sort of the anti-GK: generally the exact same motivations except unlike Jay, Zinyak is not only cultured and a pretty decent guy (when he's not trying to break your will and enslave your ass), so it would be interesting to see Jay's reactions to that.

And then there's the part where after immediately rescuing Gat (who literally murdered dozens of aliens while buck ass nude and coming out of a sleep coma five minutes prior), it's established Zinyak fears Gat more than the player character.

And then the love scenes. You can have off-screen sex with every single character except Benjamin King and the VP. Yes, you can fuck the floating robot eye, there is an achievement for having sex with everybody, even. I want GK to accidentally discover this, the reaction would be GLORIOUS.

Jay loves the Bomberman series, to the point of writing cringey fanfiction about a self-insert young bomberman who nobly sacrifices himself for the common good. Nah, just kidding - he meets a cute bombergirl in bomberschool and impresses her by being EPIC.

Perhaps Jay's love of the series could sway him to take a shot at multiplayer on what is going to be either a clone or an emulator.

Classic multiplayer Bomberman is a dose of pure, uncomplicated fun.

Also, I'm pretty awesome at it.

Didn't realize Fables was more fast paced. Shame, it Walking Dead would also have him play another horror game which provided some laughs last time.

So...Bomberman: Chapter Zero, yes/no for GK?
