Look at his bibliography. In almost 35 years, the only remotely memorable or good thing he ever did was the Manual of the Planes.

Also he's also either a genuinely dense motherfucker or being deliberately obtuse, completely missing @sophnar0747's point that gamers don't get butthurt about negative reviews, they get rightfully annoyed when some shitty review from some worthless joke of a "games journalist" has absolutely nothing to do with the game and is just anally anguished reeeeeing about shit that nobody cares about.

The (rather obvious) point is that if Microsoft actually gave a shit about giving more people access to more games, it wouldn't have bought Bethesda and then refused to allow Bethesda games to release on Sony consoles, because that's preventing access, not providing it. Microsoft is paying lipservice to the idea of "more games available to more people", but under the PR veneer it's just business as usual, buying up exclusivity to project a false sense of value onto its hardware offerings. Gotta make sure nobody pays attention to the near nonexistent hardware gap between PS5 and Series X, or to the fact that both machines are essentially gimped, locked-down PCs. People won't wonder why they arbitrarily aren't allowed to have Game X on Platform Y if you just repackage it as "you get this stuff and other people don't" and sell it to them as a feature of the thing they're buying.

The people that did it got old and had a middle age crisis that their whole lives was based upon children digital toys. Then the failson moved in thinking video game journalism was just a spring board to a bigger and better career and never left.

Basically video games should have never gotten main stream popular.

Definitely a hardcore tankie as I previously explained. In that Gundam podcast episode I linked to, his acolytes (who I believe are new viewers to these shows while Austin is their expert contact) are even explicit about their takes aspiring for communism.

Just a couple of days ago, here's how Austin Walker described the arc of Haman Karn, the main antagonist of Gundam ZZ carried over from Zeta:

While I can't find from him any mention of Mao, Stalin the CCP, or the USSR, I'm reminded of a previous incident in which the Waypoint podcast had a long segment talking about Hong Kong after the Blizzard/Blitzchung controversy from 2019. In this segment, he's very ambivalent about saying "fuck China" (unlike "fuck America" or "fuck Israel") particularly because he can't stand the notion of being on the same side of an issue as his primary political enemies (Republicans, etc.). Even if the intense hatred he has for his political enemies is justified, it's very much a nonsensical contrarian mindset analogous to "Hitler liked dogs, so I hate them!" So instead, he mainly falls back to his comfortable "fuck corporations" rhetoric.
