The purpose of the this thread is to discuss any game franchise that you've poured hours into with multiple entries, but then after say a certain entire, your interest in the franchise as a whole just fades away for any or no reason. It can be genre, even MMO's with multiple expansion packs.

For me it was the Monster Hunter series, I played Monster Hunter Freedom 1+2, Unite(PSP) to death netting up to 3000+ hours total in each game, then after 200 hours into Monster Hunter Tri for Wii, I just lost interest in the whole franchise, I even ceased activity on (the now gone) Minegarde Forum.
It's strange how you can binge a game like crazy then suddenly loose interest altogether.

Metroid, I used to be completely obsessed with it but after the giant lull in games and Other M being the definition of the word "meh" I haven't picked up the any of the games since.

Pokemon, love blue and silver and played them to death, fell out of it, picked up platinum eventually and played that to death and I haven't played another since, I'd probably like them but I already got my fill.

I also played the shit out of AC2 and Brotherhood and for so long didn't care about any other entries in the series but I might start playing Black Flag in a year or so since I've heard good things.

I also played so much Battlefield 1942 with the two expansion packs and Battlefield Vietnam and then dropped off with like the 2142 stuff and BF2 because for some reason I just really liked the WW2 and Vietnam era so much and didn't care for what the sequels were doing.

Gold and Silver was when I stopped playing the series as well, my OCD habits just got prodded knowing I couldn't get them all and they just kept adding more and more with each new entry, though I did download Yellow on the 3DS Eshop for nostalgia.

Soulsborne series. Played the shit out of Dark Souls 1 and 3 as well as Bloodborne, and they use to be my favorite games ever. After I beat 3 however, I lost interest in the entire formula. Probably played like 400 hours of that series total

Disgaea. As much as I loved the first game, I really don't know why I'd want to spend 100 hours raising up my Skull Mage over and over again in each successive game when it's the same process. It's like Pokemon without the ability to port over your Pokemon to a newer game.

Assassin's Creed. They kept pumping out sequels every year that I don't really have time and I heard the quality had dropped as a result. Plus, I don't have any next-gen console. I could play them on PC but I'm not sure mine can handle it.

That's not really hard, seeing how the only Metroid game that came out since Other M is Federation Force.

I guess the closest thing for me would be League of Legends, though that was me not really having anybody to play it with and a string of losses in Ranked mode coupled with me losing control of my life.

The Sims: I enjoyed the first one, loved the second and as much as I tired to get into the third (I even tried again a few years later), I couldn't. (I won't waste your time with all my problems with it.) And four was such a disappointment in how buggy it was, how much it lacked and how it seems like the makers aren't even trying with the expansion packs (even the bigger ones). Now my love of the series is just...gone.

Assassin' Creed: Buggy, not as interesting plot-wise and they're being pumped out like crazy (and not in a good way).

The Sims.
I had every expansion pack for the first, second, and third game.
When the fourth one came out it was such a disappointment. It was such a small game with little to no content and each expansion pack was forty bucks (each only coming with only 15 items).
This was when I realized that EA cared only about money.

Speaking of EA fucking things up, I was a big fan of SSX2 and the rest of the SSX series (though they weren't as good and I haven't played the Wii version). EA's take on SSX took out all the personality (especially from the cast), craziness and spirit that it wrecked the series.

The Dead or Alive series. Got into it when I got the third game on Xbox Original, and over a few years I got all of the installments all the way back to the PS1 version of the original series. Yes, this includes the volleyball games.

Then Last Round resigned itself to DLC hell and the player base is now mostly a bunch of creepy red-pillers.

Gran Turismo.

I played 1-3 nonstop for years, and then 4 came out and it was kind of meh. Nothing had really changed.

And since then the series has remained pretty stale, adding very little in the way of features or new content, making us wait YEARS between game releases, leaving out features that EVERY OTHER contemporary racing title has, etc.

Kazunori Yamauchi's autism and general Japanese fear of change has kind of ruined the series. I keep hoping the next one will be the one that catches up with the Forzas and other racing games out there, but then it's just more of the same old shit and then an inevitable 5 year wait for the next one in the series.

It's gotta be Fallout. With the way it's currently headed, Bethesda is making it simplified to an unenjoyable extent. I never managed to finish Fallout 4, and a replay later on just fell flat 2 hours in. It would take a real change to revive my interest in the series.

after having finished the main quest and started over, i went about forty minutes in and realized it just wasn't fun.

Destiny. I stopped playing after two weeks, I mean literally just switched it off and never fired it up again. I played it pretty solidly up until then, but it just suddenly hit me that I wasn't enjoying it but was instead playing it for the slim chance that it was going to "reward" me with a slightly better gun.

I don't think I've ever played a game where you could so blatantly "see the strings" if that makes any sense. It's a barely disguised collection of Skinner box elements.

Animal Crossing. I played it heavily for a year and completed a lot of "big" goals in the game such as the largest house/golden statue and Nook's largest store. After that I took a break and came back from time to time until I outright stopped. I never bothered with subsequent sequels (did not have the systems and heard they were weaker compared to the first one). One of these days I might get New Leaf and get back in.

  • Metroid after Other M nearly wrecked it for me. I just started playing some Metroid games again after AM2R came out.
  • Almost any multiplayer FPS around 2007-08' due to the CoD and the effect it had on FPS's afterwards, also EA fucked up Battlefield.
  • Planetside after SOE completely broke the game (some assume it was on purpose in an attempt to make people switch to the sequel) and released an Early Beta as Planetside 2. It was so bad that they re-opened Planetside 1 for free (it was still broken to hell though). It caused their company to finally go under and sell the game off to a more competent developer. Thank god.
  • Age of Empires, first one was great, second one was amazing, I didn't even bother with the third one.
  • Total War games, after Empire: Total War I lost interest because each new game requires you to more or less build a new computer to run it. The modding community is non-existent for the later games and the AI has gotten progressively worse with each newer game.
