Gaming terminology, slang, and colloquialisms. -

Ok, I was reading a thread on another site where somebody asked as to why we use the term "boss" for the end of level bad guy (explanations include it originating from pen and paper DnD and 70's Kung-Fu movies) Then others mentioned what word they used in their countries for things such as..

"King" or "Master" for a boss.

"Actor" for the main Character.

"Clocked" for finishing a game.

So does anybody here have any local gaming terms that differentiate from the norm, or did you even have names and colloquialisms in your household and circle of friends for characters or enemies.
For example, as kids back in the early 90's we jokingly dubbed these guys from the first Sonic the Hedgehog game

"Teddy Ruxpins" because we thought they looked like the 80's toy of the same name, and it just stuck.

My friends and I used to have names for some of the weapons in GoldenEye since we played so much. We called the KF7 Soviet the "Pencil" because it looked so much like one. We called proximity mines "Proxims" and my friend called the D5K Deutsche the "Doosh" because he was a dumbass who couldn't read good. I'm sure there were more.

My dad still calls every console a Nintendo irrespective of the brand. Pretty sure he called my laptop one as well, once or twice.

I always took that as a reflection of Nintendo's dominance of the market in the eighties and nineties. Most people who don't play games just think of all consoles as "Nintendos" the same way everyone refers to facial tissues as "Kleenex".

While I myself haven't used it, I have heard the term "Game Ender" being used. It is used to describe moments in arcade-style games that, if you die once to, will proceed to kill you over and over until you get a game over because it's nearly impossible to get past it since you lose all of your powerups when you die. (Or something similar)

Another term I've heard in certain circles is called RNG or "Random Number God", who is blamed due to unluckiness from randomized elements in videogames (Like, for example, an attack which randomly generates projectiles, which can result in the difficulty in dodging the attack varying, sometimes quite wildly if it's a poorly made or really unforgiving game)

Yeah, that's exactly what it is, a typical "mom" thing to say. Of course, as you say, Nintendo had complete dominance back then, so many kids would just say stuff like "I'm going over to Timmy's house to play Nintendo" because it's precisely what they were doing.

I way that I'm familiar with that term is through loot based games like Diablo, Borderlands, and Destiny where the Random Number Generator (rng) is what decides what loot you get.
"I just spent four hours killing bats trying to get a massive sword of wangpalement, and got nothing! damn RNG!"

Fuck lets see:

Controllers: Game Pads, Paddles, Sticks.
Cartridges: Tapes, Cassettes.

I remember when the SNES came out we started calling the NES "the Flat Nintendo". Also, we called bad guys "homeboys".

Do people still say, "Fragging"?

One of the most prominent livestreamers is "lethalfrag." I also remember telefragging in Quake Deathmatch, where you'd teleport to the exact location of an opponent and they'd explode in a shower of gibs. Usually this was accidental but if you timed it just right, it was a great and humiliating way to kill someone.

I like using dog breeding terms when breeding pokemon

like I call the female hidden ability carrier I use for hidden abilities the ability dames (sounds a bit nicer and ability bitches, eh?) and just the pokemon I use for breeding I call the "dame" and "sire" a lot

The egg move chains used to get an egg move I refer to as move pedigrees

the designated ditto is a "stud ditto"

I also use linebreeding and out-crossing to name a few the same way as the real world terms
