Isn't that illegal for the idol industry?
You're not allowed to fuck them and then let the press know. Idols are not allowed to admit to being fucked, either, as the Idol industry believes it hurts the Idol's image if fans were to find out about their personal lives. However, it's not technically illegal to fuck an Idol, and I'm sure it happens - it's just that everyone's contractually obligated to keep their mouths shut.

(iirc, this NDA culture that pervades the Japanese music industry was one of the reasons why Rei left Ladybaby to focus on her indie band. I also suspect it played a role in Yui's still-undisclosed departure from Babymetal, although Ladybeard seems to have left his original band on amicable terms due to problems with his work visa, and not, as I originally suspected, because there was some kind of Idol drama going on backstage)

"Kawaii Metal" sounds pretty gay.
Most Kawaii Metal bands aren't gay (except maybe Deadlift Lolita), and even if they were gay, it doesn't really matter for purposes of the point I was making: "Gay Japanese Metal" isn't just metal that's gay, it's a distinct genre, or at least a distinct aesthetic that links a set of interrelated genres (weebs usually call it Visual Kei; it's essentially the Japanese version of glam rock/ hair metal).

A gay Kawaii Metal band would just be a gay Kawaii Metal band, not a Gay Japanese Metal band. You might make the argument that Kawaii Metal is an offshoot of thirdwave Visual Kei / GJM, but I think that would be stretching things too far. Kawaii Metal was really created by Amuse Talent and Babymetal, and AFIAK their producer, Kobametal, has disavowed the Visual Kei label (even though he himself worked in Visual Kei during the 90s, and would be among the first to exploit that label if he could)

For example, this would be GJM:

and this is Kawaii Metal:

the look, sound, and attitude is quite different.

No, I--

I meant being of age.

I thought being of age was illegal in the idol industry.

Ooooh, lol, ok. Sorry, 'tism took over.

It's actually a really big deal when people fuck Idols in Japan. Japanese record companies have whole departments dedicated to handling the public image of Idols, and one of the more controversial things (at least, to outside observers) is the fact that Idols are typically bound by massive non-disclosure agreements, preventing them from talking about their sex lives, or even romance in general. There's been a couple incidents where fans found out an Idol was dating somebody, and the scandal was so bad that it completely ruined their career.

This even extends to V-tubers and animu shit, from what I understand.

-edit- here ya go an example of what I'm talking about. Popular Idol from supergroup AKB48 got caught by paparazzi going on one date, got kicked out of the band, and had to shave her head in shame.

Thats disgusting and depressing.

edit: While digging around my LP's, I found something I bought at random when I was living in Japan. It's a chick so not ghey but pretty cool.

Still active with only the bass player changing and there's something enduring about a grandma dressing up like a kabuki King Diamond.

Yeah, and don't even get me started on what ((redacted)) went through. I'm not going to mention her name, because if I say "don't Google (((redacted))), really, don't!", I know everyone who reads that will Google her out of curiosity, and then their day will get ruined. So unless someone wants to turn this thread into "Horrors of the Japanese Music Industry", I'll just say that there were some Japanese metal singers who were involved in the "Junior" Idol scene before music got them out, and leave it at that.

It's easy to criticize the Idol industry, especially when you've got stories like "I went on a date and as punishment I had to shave my head on national TV", but somewhat in Japan's defense, while their music industry may be deeply troubled, the Western music industry is arguably just as fucked, if not more. The difference being that instead of a lot of broken, neurotic, drug-addicted leftwing celebrities getting their deviant lives aired by the media for the public's amusement, it's a bunch of quiet, neurotic, cloistered celebrities, being careful to always present the proper image that their parent corporation has decided they should embody.

Like if the West is a shameless lolcow with an extensive Kiwifarms thread, Japan is a corporate Youtuber who stays off social media and really, REALLY wants to keep his monetization, please.

Also, I don't know a lot about the Chinese or Korean entertainment industry, but I think there's a similar attitude in those countries, too. I know Jackie Chan, for example, is a famous pop singer in Hong Kong and China, and one of his rules is never to speak about his personal life (apparently he once mentioned in an interview that he'd gotten married, and a fan of his became so distraught over the news that she killed herself. After that, Jackie swore to never again air intimate details about himself)

To bring it back to metal for a second, that's actually one of the reasons I unironically respect the Kawaii scene. It's still part of the "Idol" world, but it's a lot more relaxed, and the artists involved have far more personal freedom and input into their careers than, say, Morning Musume or AKB48. Babymetal, for example, one of the reasons their song catalogue is so eclectic is because they regularly collab with indie musicians who would otherwise never have a chance to find work. I actually found a really interesting article on their process some years back, right when they were first taking off; I've since lost the link, but the gist of the thing was that Babymetal was getting so much buzz in the industry because it was esentially an island of creative freedom, where Japanese musicians who'd otherwise be relegated to uncredited studio sessions and self-published albums overseas, could actually flex their chops and not only make the kind of music they wanted to hear, but actually get an audience for it.

Japanese bands that I recommend:

Sadie-a visual kei band inspired by Dir En Grey.

Mad Capsule Markets-They had one semi big hit (Scary) that gets occasional play on rock radio stations.

BORIS- Funky doom metal (I think they’re doom?)

Also, a band called Clowd, who aren’t metal, but have some good songs.
