Gearbox Threatens To 'Expand Outside' Texas Over Anti-Trans Bill -

If you pay attention to the wording, the threat is even more milquetoast than "we'll leave Texas".

It's literally, "we'll expand outside of Texas".

They aren't moving out no matter their social posturing. Which means their HQ would still be in Texas. They'd still be paying Texas taxes, and they would still be under Texan jurisdiction. The place is already a hub for IT and games development, leaving for a stupid PR stunt would not sit well with their corporate overlords. Remember, kids: Gearbox is a subsidiary, they still have to answer to THQ Nordic.

Haven't Retro made anything since Tropical Freeze? Last time I've heard that they took over working on Prime 4 years ago.
It's only been two years, but yeah. Honestly, I think they were dragging ass and about to be absorbed by Nintendo and Prime 4 is their chance/attempt to be back on top. I hope it works, because the worst game they've ever made was like a 7 or 8/10.

Offensive? Sure. The issue was it was dated and juvenile. The Hive level comes to mind. It doesn't help that everything about Duke Nukem Forever was rushed and dated, despite 12 years in development hell.

That was the scene that got me to close and uninstall the game on the spot.

Sure, Duke is a mean son of a bitch, but his quips and his jokes were reserved to the aliens. The man has always cared about the babes above all. It's like some bitch on the writing team went "oh, the Holsom twins are just dumb sluts, they deserve what's coming to them", even though they never did anything malicious on-screen.

It's crazy to think the game came out only a year before Anita Sarkeesian came onto the scene.

I quit the game not long after that scene myself, there is such a thing as going too far sometimes, the tone of Duke Nukem in 1996 was fine, but the tone of DNF was simply being a tryhard.

I really do wonder what the hell they were thinking with that scene, but the fact that it wasn't a very good game to begin with convinced me I was wasting my time after that part.

Not even move, just expand.

for your company to make a short-sighted deal with Epic Games for a huge pile of cash that the company gets to keep but drastically hurt sales. Sorry guys - for unforseen circumstances we had to cut bonuses (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...nds-3-devs-accuse-gearbox-of-shorting-bonuses).
PC sales are minuscule to how many units these games sell for on the console. They're also aware that a good chunk of the people not buying it on Epic will hold out for it on Steam, which happened since BL3 was on the top selling list for Steam upon release with a total of 93k playing it upon its launch (https://steamcharts.com/app/49520)
It couldn't also be Gearbox's reputation for higher ups constantly stealing money from the company, being weirdos (bringing porn to work, harassing employees, trashing ex-employees, cornering employees and walking them magic tricks) or Gearbox's bad reputation in the industry (stealing money from Sega, Duke Nukem lawsuits, Borderlands 3's $120 dollar edition, the CEO suggesting people make porn of Battleborn characters).
Gearbox was a private company so he was allowed to do whatever and say whatever without shareholders breathing down his neck. Apparently he still has that liberty under THQ Nordic's belt. It's amazing how much Randy has gotten away with

Also DNF wasn't the worst thing out there. Subpar and forgettable sure, but not Daikatana bad. The alien hive didn't bother me more or less than the entirety of the game's writing with its lowest of brow fratbro humor you'd see in a Happy Madison movie. George Broussard being an infamous fat perverted slob probably wrote down that part of the story. That said, the Wholesome Twins were exceptionally creepy, I haven't a clue if that was the tone they were going for.

DNF was a functional game. Nothing that blown me away, just average in many aspects. The writing was bad.
