Well I’m willing to overlook Karl’s usual shenanigans due to him recently speaking out and strongly condemning the Biden administration’s multi-tiered assault on gun rights.
Oh wait…..no he didn’t. The only politics he’s willing to wade into are various social justice causes. While saying nothing about the omnipresent threat to a right he claims to care about. At least Ian doesn’t delve into politics *period*.
Karl wants to be “welcoming” to non-traditional gun enthusiasts. I get that and also approve. But he should also be making it clear to these individuals that the officials *they* helped to elect with their votes are the ones leading the charge to eviscerate their 2A rights. But he doesn’t want to risk “triggering” his new fan base with “right wing” talking points. So he says nothing on the current *clear and present threats* to gun rights and instead uses his platform purely to play culture warrior.

Either do both, or neither, Karl.

There are straight-up worthless shill gun channels out there coming out stronger against the ATF proposals, Biden’s nonsense etc than Karl is.
And that is why people are fine with Ian and hate Karl.

I don’t mind Ian as I think he has done more to preserve historical guns in this generation then anyone else. Just by getting the information out there people are more likely to realize what they have and not chuck it at a gun sale. He says quiet on the political front as he is an archivist not and activist.

Karl wants to talk wade into politics yet can’t be bothers to talk about political gun issues.

Ian is also clearly better informed on these things, and if you look at how he phrases things and how his expression sours when he's addressing certain issues, it's pretty clear he has fairly right-of-center opinons on guns. He just doesn't screech about them because he's got a lot more to lose, and his channel going away would mean a lot of content would be lost. He was very factual when talking about what he did to his pistol braces (or was it bump stocks? It's been a while): he got rid of them because he didn't want them to be a possible liability. Being publicly as neutral as possible is just about the best way he can actually keep his channel with Youtube being what it is. Just look at how he had to phrase things in his recent video about 3D printed Roth Steyr 1907 stripper clips.

Socially, Ian seems to be one of these "live-and-let-live", small-L libertarian guys, which is good for him because it means he doesn't make a lot of enemies with bullshit social media hot takes (lookin' at you, Karl!). I don't think he would have been friends with a nutball like Karl for any length of time otherwise. His interest in off-grid living (it was a bigger thing before ForgottenWeapons) is also not very "progressive" either.

To be fair to those shill channels they probably have more invested in 2a rights then anyone since if all the stuff they shill gets banned how will they earn their shekels?

Karl is ultimately the perfect example of the 'liberal gun owner' that he wants to bring more of into the community. He might give some lip service about not liking cops, unlike those dang dirty bootlicking boomers (but can't even muster up a substantial criticism about the new head glowie in chief being a disastrous candidate when it comes to it), but will stay pretty much silent about antigun politicians and legislation unless backed into a corner about it and is more concerned about whining about people not liking troons in the gun community or some such nonsense.

Ian also makes hands down better content than Karl and that helps a lot.

It also makes Karl's laziness & utter lack of production values more glaring; one would think that at least some of Ian's consistency would've worn off on him by osmosis, but he can't manage even that.
But then again... I also can't imagine Karl practicing his delivery to put even a little polish on his topical turds, or using anything other than first takes.

In watching both of Ian's streams with his dad, it's easy to spot him as a chip off the block; so it really makes me wonder about Karl's father... or a lack thereof, since his petulance shrieks of daddy issues.

I know Karl's mentioned his dad before, but all I can remember is it was a fairly oblique comment in response to Q&A questions about his Scandinavian heritage.

The vast majority of these adult aged leftist-mongoloids have severe daddy-issues in one form or another. Or were simply abused as children...

Per the first inrangetv Q&A we get a little insight into Karl's lack of a father....

Karl: What's the first question

Ian: Alright so our first question is from Alex who says: "I honestly would like to hear how you both got into firearms what was it that drew you into the sport or hobby and what are some ideas from the past that you would like to see make a resurgence in today's firearms in gear."

Karl: Okay

Ian: So Karl how did you, you, I've actually never asked you this, how did you get into this?

Karl: Yeah you know it's funny so, so it wasn't like my family had a tradition of firearms or shooting or anything like that I had a um, my niece, her husband was in was into it and um, I was a kid I was like I don't know 15 14 something like that and I didn't have a Dad because he, he was gone, so he wanted uh, to kind of just be um, a "father figure" of sorts and he took me out shooting so first thing he did he took me out shooting trap I think was with 20-gauge and it was fun it was knocking down those birds it was exciting and that was a good time and then he took me out a couple times to go um do some rifle shooting which was not anyway instructional it was more just fun um it was at a proper range but it wasn't something where I learned a lot from but that was why I was 15 years old.

Ian: Okay

Karl: He actually got killed in a car accident and so that was the end of that so but when I turned 18 that bug had bit me.

Despite the memes, the man is pretty low-key. His reaction to performing a dual-wielded Stechkin magdump was a gremlin laugh and a quip.
I remember one of the C&Rsenal Q&As where it was mentioned Othias just wanted to hug everyone and talk to them for hours while Ian doesn't really like interacting with randos. Ian is definitely on the spectrum to some extent.

He's a more eccentric Burt Gummer, survival shack in the wilderness and all, and his fans are all neckbeards. I wouldn't want to hug them either.

He admitted that when he gets into something he really gets into it. He's high-functioning, sure, but between that and his degree in engineering, he's definitely on the spectrum.

Why else would you write large, lovingly-researched books on guns no one really cared about before you started talking about them?

and what would your solution to the problem have been, karl?
charles h burke sounds like a p. cool dude, who thought that injuns were just as good as whites and were just lacking education

it really is damned if you do, damned if you dont with these people.. if they didn't try to educate and give literal tribals skills, Karls of today would be whining about the weaponized educational neglect committed against the red man

to be clear, he has an engineering technologies associates degree. everyone likes to call things autistic / spectrum these days when in reality it is perfectly normal to be heavily introverted and/or extremely passionate about your hobbies.

i blame it on modern culture's obsession with medical diagosis and accompanying progressive stack.
