I've often wondered that too.

In the last 2-3 years, WWE, while not as bad, has made some pretty dumb moves that echoed WCW in the years leading to their collapse, and yet, as you said, they just keep chugging along.

Honestly, I think it's a combination of the fact that they were the only game in town for a while in terms of major promotions, and also the fact that TNA is really fucking bad as well. I think, though, with Lucha Underground, NJPW, ROH, and Chikara (to a smaller extent) getting more popular in the U.S, fans may tune out of WWE more and more rather then just begrudgingly stick with it.

Them being a monopoly is without a doubt a factor. Wrestling is still popular in the states, just not as popular as in the 90s. And without a high profile alternative there is no one else for fans to turn to unless they put effort into it. So people rather stick with the WWE than drop wrestling entirely.

Honestly, fans of wrestling need to send TNA and WWE a message of "Hey, you both really fucking suck right now!". The best way to do it is to support Lucha Underground and ROH and NJPW and Chikara. The more fans turn away from the big two, the more they'll (hopefully) start trying to do the right thing and not be so damn lazy.

Only reason Vince McMahon started taking WWE into the attitude era for serious was because of fans turning away to WCW. We can vine and cry on the internet as much as we want, but only when we speak with our wallets will Vince cave. Or in extreme cases ala Daniel Bryan (which could just as well have been orcestrated from the word go either way).

I'm perfectly happy spending money on new japan world and on ROH.

With everything that's piling on Reigns right now, I can't help but wonder if Vince will cave for a second year in a row and halt his push, or will be strive ahead and just hope the fans will begin to take to Reigns (again).

I'm all for a Reigns push in the long run. But in my opinion he needs seasoning before taking on a headlining program.
Historically speaking all the big faces/names who have been successes have spent time in the midcard, developing a character and relationship with the fans.
Roman has been living off of the Shield since the split, both as a character and as a reason to care, and without a doubt Dean and Seth did more with that than Roman did.

Granted Seth and Dean came in with a lot more experience than Roman, explaining how easily they were to adapt to singles runs, but also how they were able to hide Roman's weakness and amp his strengths whilst part of the Shield.

WWE's built a hell of a problem for themselves.

They've done little to build up anybody from the lower and midcards for the better part of the decade and it shows. Either you're the pet project and pushed to the moon or you're nothing. There's barely anything going on the midcard and below for ages.

They've doubled down on corporate sponsorships and the Little Jimmy demographics while at the same time shifting a massive part of their business model to The Network, which relies in no small part on the Wrestling Fan to give a shit about seeing the current product. Then they go and put fuckall of their library on The Network giving a fan exactly no reason to stick around. I tried the free week or whatever it was a while back. It was neat, but I would watch a WCW ppv, the clusterfuck finish would happen and WE'LL SEE YOU TOMORROW ON NITRO. So I went to watch Nitro and sure enough I had to go over to dailymotion to see it because WWE doesn't care about using their archives.

I think the biggest issue with The Network is it's going to teach a lot of people that there's wrestling other than what's on basic cable. There's lots of people who watch WWE because it's the thing that's on TV. When you train them to go on their computers and their infowebs to see wrasslin all of the sudden their choices go up drastically, essentially killing the WWE's main strength of being on USA.

And all the while there's a bunch of companies that smell blood in the water, like how last year's Triplemania was directly opposite SummerSlam.

And seriously fuck Reigns.

It also doesn't help that WWE tries very hard to bully/muscle other wrestling feds out of doing shows on the same weekend or day as WM, though apparently, from what I've heard, a few groups have pretty much told WWE "Fuck off, we *will* be doing a show on this date...." when it comes to this year's WM.

The WWN (a parent company for promotions Evolve, Dragon Gate USA, Full Impact PRo & SHINE), one of the promotions that told WWE to F off on mania weekend recently did a four show tour of China, the first ever in wrestling. And signed a multi year deal to run tours of China.

Here's a documentary of it put together by wrestler "sexy" Chuck Taylor.

In other wrestling rumors:
There was a discussion on the Dr Keith show (a observer show) about a rumor going around that this year's G1 Climax tournament put on by New Japan will not be the traditional 2 blocks of 8 men each, but 4 blocks of 8 men each!

That will be very interesting if true, and mouth watering.....

For those who might not be in the know, the G1 is New Japan's annual heavyweight tournament that spans the month of August each year. It is also considered one of if not the big wrestling event of the year outside of mania and WrestleKingdom among the hardcore fanbase. And last years tournament was a freaking blast to watch.

Sam Roberts report blows all of them out of the water. Because half the pod isn't just shilling of sponsorships.

I'm particularly fond of the Attitude Era podcast and the OSWReview.

where has he worked?
He's a radio DJ out of New York who's a big wrestling fan. And in the recent years he has become a go to guy for wrestling companies wanting to promote shows in or around New York. WWE always has guys do his show when they are in town, as do TNA, ROH and the like. And he gets invited to the mania axxess panels and such.

He recently started up a podcast (I think they only have about 20 episodes) but he's done interviews with guys like Big Show, Karl Anderson, Jay Briscoe, Adam Cole, Bully Ray and so forth.

He isn't a big name in wrestling or has the knowledge of say a Jericho. But he is a much better interviewer imo.

i like austin cause he's tthe most coherent of the bigger workers with a show (his last heyman interview was a clinic on how to promo)
i find jericho good because he seems to have the guys a little more laid back and you get better stories then the usual stuff.

Can't agree more. While Seth and Dean both have aspects of their shield personalities they've further developed themselves. Roman Reigns has sufferin succotash. Dean is still doing character development and Seth is where he should be with his character. Also best line from non-wrestling Raw monday: "Do you have a poster of me I can stare at". God I love Dean Ambrose.
