Didnt see a thread, I'll delete if there is one.

I saw something about this game like a year ago and forgot about it. Seems like half the people on my ps4 friends list are playing it right now so I just started downloading it. I dont know much about this game other than it's supposed to be pretty weebish.

Is anyone else playing it?

Based on my Twitch feed, yes people are playing it. Game looks good enough (especially on the platforms where it is free) but I am waiting for the switch port.

yeah I just started it, first impression just on the visuals is that it's very pretty.

A few of my friends have been playing it, and from what I've seen, it looks like a very weeby light-MMORPG style gacha game (although meant to be played singleplayer? I think?).
Seems like it might be a good game if it wasn't gacha.
Sort of have a stigma against it though since one of my friends spent a few thousand on the previous game in the same series (Honkai Impact 3?). He's not a very bright person.

I know some people playing it, I hear its pretty good but I have little interest personally.

Although Genshin Impact supposedly did, or still does I don't know, have some spyware that is similar to the Valorant shit from awhile back. For what it is worth someone I know who played it on PC as soon as it came out and they have programs constantly running to check for stuff like this. They didn't detect anything that gives kernel-level access like Valorant's used to do, they even checked again when I brought this up and they still didn't find anything. So it likely isn't anymore invasive then any other app.

Pros: It's free and you can play through the entirety of the story and go everywhere without having to spend any money. It's pretty to look at and listen to and an effective time sink and at least at first, the game shoves a bunch of currency in your face so you can do the gacha stuff if you want. It's single-player (with optional co-op once you reach a certain rank).

Cons: It gets pretty grindy pretty fast, stopping the plot dead because you aren't a high enough rank in one of the groups. I'm not a fan of the UI for menus or buttons (I'm on PS4) but it takes some getting used to. I haven't gotten far enough to be able to tell but unless the game gives you at least one character from each element, you won't be able to complete all the puzzles in the open world unless you go for the gacha.

All that being said, I wouldn't spend money on it but since it's free and not an MMO, I'm enjoying it. The achievements are grindy af, though.

I've been playing it. 7/10 play it if you like weeb shit.
I still haven't even finished the prologue. Game's fuckin big yo.

Theres about 2 per element right now, and I think your MC unlocks all the elements throughout the story.

It's free to download. It's got usual micro transaction style of making money, but I've been told by some the micro transactions arent necessary to play the game or access all the gameplay content. I can't speak personally for that its just what I've been told.
You get a steady flow of currency and can pretty easily buy 10-stacks every few days without ever spending real money. Pay to go faster, not pay to win.

GI copped a lot of flak before it was even released on international because its gacha rates managed to sink to the lowest level it's ever been brought to in a single gacha franchise. As @Namesarehardtocomeupwith said Mihoyo games have always been like this, looks pretty and can be cruised to story's end cheaply but after that there's a gigantic wall of P2W that is summed up below:
  • 0.6% top rarity rate. This is among the lowest in the market, and it gets worse because...
  • Gacha pool for heroes is shared with equipment. The chance above is for BOTH types of output combined. Yeah.
  • Pity system does not extend past the regular banner, so any rolls you make in special banners will not give you guaranteed top-rank after a set number of rolls.
  • Though the story can be done with the starter units, future content will not be as forgiving and will almost certainly require meta units.
In summary, the game is enjoyable if you approach it without any expectations in the gacha, and play it like a mild BotW clone. But if you ever want to venture past the brightly-coloured funscapes and glittering plot, a world of pain and frustration awaits you...

I played about 12 hours of it and enjoyed it enough. Beyond wholesale copying a couple of mechanics from BotW, it's more of a action jrpg than that game was. Locking the co-op mode behind a 8-10 hour grind is stupid tho, and honestly I just don't think there's enough in it to keep my interest for a longer amount of time.

The people playing this have noted that while treasure chests are plentiful to get that 800 chest open achievement(because some areas have 30-50 chests), the fact that this does not have a platinum means it's been deemed not a full sized game. Games with plats usually have to have more effort put into them. Like for example a game like Journey only has a 100%, it's a short game with not a lot of requirements to complete it, same with Sonic Mania.

More than likely they're going to be having either paid DLC or DLC with different types of paid currency coming down the pipes. I would most definitely avoid this because while the initial game may hook some people they could very easily fuck you over later. The company is known for just wanting to appease whales.

I disagree, people should play it now before it gets fucked by p2w add ons and a huge gacha roster. It's free so there's no downside to dropping at any time.
