Is it the same account for every platform?
account shit is set up in a weird way.

If you finish the American version and want to do the EU one, you can't. You have to delete your American account on whatever platform you're playing on and make a new one for whatever new region you want to play in. There's stuff that won't unlock with region switching in the game unless the account is nuked first.

It's a mihoyo game. I'd say it either backbreaking grind or spending an ungodly amount of money to even have a chance competitively.

that's the thing tho, there's nothing to compete (yet). not even sure abyss has leaderboards.
most people will play it like their $60 $70 full price game + season pass they never finish, whales gonna whale either way.

Yeah I'm hesitant to pick it up because all the achievements are grinding bullshit, this is clear China shovel-ware, and there's no a whole lot to do in the game.
playstation trophies? ingame it's not that worse than your average open world "do everything everywhere to 100%" game.
platinum missing might be because it's still getting content (only got 2 zones of at least 7 so far. if all of them are as big... ) and "games as a service", does warframe etc. have platinums? or maybe they simply don't want to follow the requirements for platinum trophies.

regarding shovelware, it might be gatchashit, but hot damn the production values are something else. hardly any jank, lot of tiny bits and pieces of smart design decisions (compared to lot of other games I hardly have to ask "why..?" or parts where could come up with 3 different ways to do it better) and you can see they spend some serious money on it.
I've seen shittier full price games - although to be fair most of those were western shit, with current year it's kinda to be expected. that's probably one of the reason so many people play it right now - it's simply solid, gatcha or not. gives me flashbacks when games were not a hacked together POS by an "experienced" AAA studio with idpol messaging out the ass.

Theres about 2 per element right now, and I think your MC unlocks all the elements throughout the story.

You get a steady flow of currency and can pretty easily buy 10-stacks every few days without ever spending real money. Pay to go faster, not pay to win.

that's one of the traps of gatcha (or any f2p game really), you get showered in the beginning to get you used to spending to get stuff, then when it inevitably slows down you wanna keep going. just look where most of the currency actually comes from - it's mostly non-repeatable content. can't remember exactly, someone ran the numbers and in the end you get like 9k primogems per month, if not season.

remember, the first fix is always free.

as for chars, most stuff I've seen only "needs" the ones you get for free via story (your main team basically), ofc effectiveness is a completely different topic, you really want to get some more and better synergy (but even 4 star chars will suffice for that), on top of that some recommendations are kinda pointless (electro for dungeon with electro boss), most of the time you can go by with any team as long as it does enough bursty damage - the "difficulty" is simple time limits, so if you can't kill stuff fast enough you're shit outta luck.

also, advice for anyone willing to pick it up: DON'T ROLL ON BANNERS TILL YOU GET YOUR MAIN CHARS (amber/kaeya/lisa).
if you get them via story they don't count as dupe, which you need for constellations.

also always make sure you spend all your resin, takes 16 hours to fully replenish, don't wanna waste it.

it also rewards being "smart", when you pull a 4 star your pity count resets, so don't always spent in 10s (lot of people imply since the banner has a guarantee every 10 pulls, to only do pulls in 10s - except when you get a 4 star on your third pull it's a good place to stop and re-evaluate, a full 10 pull would "waste" 7, worse you don't even know how far in you are, making you do another 10 pull).
also always have the amount you want to spend and are willing beforehand, makes it a one-time thing and the goal is to spend X, not get Y (can be ignored for the starter banner since it only has 20 pulls, so you want do all of them at the reduced cost).

Cons: It gets pretty grindy pretty fast, stopping the plot dead because you aren't a high enough rank in one of the groups. I'm not a fan of the UI for menus or buttons (I'm on PS4) but it takes some getting used to. I haven't gotten far enough to be able to tell but unless the game gives you at least one character from each element, you won't be able to complete all the puzzles in the open world unless you go for the gacha.

All that being said, I wouldn't spend money on it but since it's free and not an MMO, I'm enjoying it. The achievements are grindy af, though.

quests give the big chunk of adventure exp, and there's pretty much always one up. first time they want you to grind it also unlocks blossoms you want to do anyway to get your resin down + bosses you want for your advancement materials etc. when I gave it a spin to check ps4 performance (it's atrocious coming from pc, don't wanna imagine switch. but then it also runs on phones, so...) I got to 10 just by doing story and spending resin.

tbh don't really understand that complaint. "I just want to do story and nothing else, what the fuck you mean I'm supposed to play parts of the game I got no interest in?!?" (not your post, but I've read that complaint a few times for a few different games by now). dunno why people play an open world game in the first place for that.

my biggest con so far is that all the co-op "content" is stuck behind resin for now, if you don't have any or don't wanna spend it there's really no point with all the limitations. least you can double your drop output... (although that seem to have it's own issues).

GI copped a lot of flak before it was even released on international because its gacha rates managed to sink to the lowest level it's ever been brought to in a single gacha franchise. As @Namesarehardtocomeupwith said Mihoyo games have always been like this, looks pretty and can be cruised to story's end cheaply but after that there's a gigantic wall of P2W that is summed up below:
  • 0.6% top rarity rate. This is among the lowest in the market, and it gets worse because...
  • Gacha pool for heroes is shared with equipment. The chance above is for BOTH types of output combined. Yeah.
  • Pity system does not extend past the regular banner, so any rolls you make in special banners will not give you guaranteed top-rank after a set number of rolls.
  • Though the story can be done with the starter units, future content will not be as forgiving and will almost certainly require meta units.
In summary, the game is enjoyable if you approach it without any expectations in the gacha, and play it like a mild BotW clone. But if you ever want to venture past the brightly-coloured funscapes and glittering plot, a world of pain and frustration awaits you...

there's a 90 pull pity for 5 stars, and apparently carries over for limited banners (not standard), since 5 stars are also very limited (heh) in the pool, there's a good (50/50 right now) chance to grab the one for the banner.

however that only sounds ok till you notice/remember you need at least 6 dupes to max the character's constellation/weapon. enjoy (my most played char is 5 a star, already know I'm never gonna max that).

but unless you get extremely shit pulls you can do most of the story and farming without spending a dime and just the free stuff they give out. still need to get gud tho, can already see the adventure rank advancement challenges gonna filter lot of people out with crappy comp/gear. don't wanna imagine how the average nintendy level casual will react to that...

another thing is how mihoyo will go on from here, considering how the game blew up. ease up on the gatcha a bit to try to keep all those people and possibly get them to spend money, or keep at it, miscalculate and implode when all those people walk away? game cost a lot more to make than your average mobile phone gatcha with pretty jpegs, will definitely be interesting.

Is the gacha really that abusive? I have a full team of five stars using four star weapons already, and I only just cracked rank 25. Haven't spent a dime. It seems really generous to me, or am I just stupid lucky?
With what the rates look like in GI, you're very lucky. Might want to prepare for days when your luck runs dry, though.

Yeah, Mona finally hit that playstyle itch I was looking for, so I'm much less interested in character pulls until something neat comes out. Better weapons would be nice, but now that I can reliably avoid damage, I'm fine with my own being a bit lower.

People judging this just because china/mobile are robbing themselves. These devs are so much better at open world design than ubisoft, it's honestly baffling. I'd like to know how they do it - I'm guessing lots of devs each given a small chunk of map to lively up, because I haven't seen any map geography copying and the things-to-do density is really high.
It's okay, the story and the lore feels like nothing special (I am really tired of weeb fantasy Europe aesthetics) but the music is very good, I'd love an extended version of the guitar pieces in Dawn Winery. I'm only playing it because a mobile games only friend wants me to.
You should wander over to liyue if you can and see if you like it more. Hopefully you do, because it's 2-3 times as big as mondstat.

The people playing this have noted that while treasure chests are plentiful to get that 800 chest open achievement(because some areas have 30-50 chests), the fact that this does not have a platinum means it's been deemed not a full sized game. Games with plats usually have to have more effort put into them. Like for example a game like Journey only has a 100%, it's a short game with not a lot of requirements to complete it, same with Sonic Mania.

This is a load of bollocks. Plenty of F2P games lack platinum trophies.

I finally got to AR16 in order to play with a friend just to realize I can't do shit and the waypoints I unlock there don't even unlock in my world. It's also extremely gay that you can't change controls on the PC version. That being said, it's pretty enjoyable and I'm sure I'll keep playing until my luck runs dry which will probably be very soon.

Also I want to punch that stupid bitch Paimon in the stomach, I want her to hurt.

Did some rerolls and ended up with an account I'm pretty happy with. Diluc and Keqing as the two 5 stars I got, along with firecookladyxiang, barbara, Fischl. Really liking the game so far. I have a bit of a thing for grinding so I enjoyed rerolling, it takes about 25 minutes or so to get a bunch of free rolls on a new account. Might even continue rerolling, since the incentives to do so are limited and end sometime later today I believe. Any tips from experienced gachafags? I intend to probably mostly do f2p, I might spend a bit if they don't seem too Jewish about it later on.

I've only played it a little. Performance seems a bit spotty on PS4 so might just wait til PS5 to really dive in. But it seems okay so far I guess?

I just love how the game that was called a BOTW knockoff and had autists smashing their PS4s over it has blown up in popularity so much.
