Genuinely good Christmas music - When you feel the overwhelming urge to throttle Andy Williams

Seeing how it's the most wonderful time of the year where we trudge our husks from store to store through freezing weather in order to perpetuate the massive display of consumerism known as Christmas, I've decided to make a thread dedicated to genuinely good Christmas music for when you think to yourself "I will murder everyone in this mall if I have to hear "All I Want For Christmas Is You" one more time."

A southern-fried Christmas from My Morning Jacket:

Let the boys from Run-DMC tell you how Christmas goes down in the hood:

If your Christmas involves drinking alone, then play some Gruff Rhys while you hit the egg nog:

And lastly, a guilty pleasure of my family:

I don't know why, but I fucking love this song. It's catchy as fuck and stupid, but I love it.
I like to put on a New York Italian accent and shake my hands during the "they speak Italian to him and he even understands" line.

I don't know who sings this or what it's called, but I used to hear a song performed by a woman with a powerful contralto (female tenor) voice and the line "Oh, yes, it's Christmas time, oh yes, it's Christmas tiiiiiiime" is repeated over and over again. Loved it!

I have very fond memories of performing "Do You See What It See" in junior high band and chorus, so I always enjoy hearing it because the arrangement we played was so good. I'll never forget the boy, who is now a Facebook friend, who beat the tympanis to within an inch of their lives. :)

Don't forget this instant classic. They probably wouldn't have put the year in it if they'd had any idea people would still be listening to it almost 40 years later.

I've never met another human being in the world that enjoys this, but I like that it's called Joy to the WORLD and it combines musical styles and art from basically every continent. And it sounds joyful. Like, so happy you're crying joyful.

This is only partially a shitpost. This rendition of the song gets stuck in my head throughout the year.

This feels like something I'd watch on HBO Family growing up, and I mean that in a good way.

:powerlevel:: I'm generally pretty sentimental about the Christmas season. I think a good Christmas song doesn't always necessarily come down to the song itself but the interpretation. A lot of people will put out soulless takes on standards for a cash grab.

So here's a few good ones to try on.

Pretty good if you've got someone to waltz with.

Unless maybe you're Canadian or something? I collected Dr. Demento albums, sue me.
