That is on the bold presumption that Dick is going to spend thousands of dollars to buy debt he knows he will never collect again. If the answer to the question "is this worth tens of thousands of dollars" is not "obviously, yes" then it is not as funny as you think it is.
Dick bought $300 worth of debt. He will collect that in a funny way worth $300, and any jokes on $30,000 would be repeats. Even if his Patreon is making a lot, why do you think he has $20k to burn buying bad debt? The dude's probably stuffing that shit into cryptocurrency and Grand Cayman accounts to prepare for his inevitable unpersoning. That's what I would be doing if I were him. If I found myself suddenly earning $20k/mo I would not assume that'd last even a year.
I think a debt of $290 Heather will never pay is about as funny as a much larger debt that she also will not pay.
Legality aside, I guess he could've crowdfunded buying the debt if it was more substantial, but the more effort you expend on a gag the harder it becomes to justify.

With a new judge, I never really expected any different, unless it was someone looking to make a splash and get some headlines (even if they would just be found on fringe websites dedicated to counterculture). Goddammit, that judge was worthless and frankly, I'm a little annoyed that the fact Heather S is a real person wasn't brought up. I really wanted to see LanDUI and Maddox get what's coming to them, guess I'll have to settle with the thought that LanDUI has to live with another judge knowing he's a piece of shit.
I don't think anyone said it outright, but did he seem drunk, as if he actually showed up at the hearing drunk?
