Getting Paid for this Shit - $$$$$$

I figured this is as good a place as any to ask and get real answers, not bs.

How the fuck do you start getting paid to draw shit?

Like imagine starting on the internet with no fanbase but can draw. How would you recommend going from that to making some money without like... charging $5 for full body, full colored shit or other sweatshop situations. It just always seems like it's impossible to get started without doing exclusively fandom stuff and I'm not autistic enough for that shit.

You can make an account on Instagram/Twitter and post stuff you've done before in the past to get some traction. You can announce you do commissions once you gather a fanbase. That being said, fandom speds shell out some serious money so maybe reconsider if you want to make more money.
Either way, it would be difficult unless you're particularly good/unique to make it these days since there are so many "artists" shilling their crap for cheap on most platforms.

I draw hentai (my profile pic is a testament of that) and several people on twitter, reddit and facebook asked me if I did commissions or would be willing to do them.

Plus having something really appealing and original to show for is also a drawer for people, for example my "art" is simplistic in design with very define lines and vibrant colors something that is kinda unique and not many artists do.

There are literally 2 and only 2 ways in the entire world to make money drawing: work for Disney, or draw furry porn and sell it to fucking degenerates discerning gentlemen of idiosyncratic sexual tastes.
There are technically other ways, such as drawing concept art for video games or movies, getting into comics (independent or with one of the big boys), etc., but your chances of landing one of those with reasonable pay is slim to none and the competition is fierce. You could always send out your portfolio, but good luck. Coomers, meanwhile, will throw endless streams of cash your way for mediocre art.

Seriously, what fandom other than furries has the reputation for wildly overpaying for art?

Do weebs take commissions? Not like the faux-western style anime artists, but actual Japanese people?

I assume with furries it is easier to get money for art because furries are coomers, but also because they tend to have a ton of fursonas and ocs to get art of, therefore the constant high demand from artists. If there were a fandom that also had an emphasis on self inserts and ocs perhaps, but so far none I can think of are as big as furries are.

If you make a portrait of Reviewbrah he will use it as a background during part of his VORW podcast and mention your insta, deviant art, or whatever at the start of the program. I've seen some really well-done pieces on there.

Go on facebook and make your friends share post offering portraits for big money. People who buy portraits pay big money for good portraits. Go all traditional and shit. You could also just draw furry porn on twitter. Whichever one you think is less embarrassing.

From what I've seen, Japanese budding artists works mainly through Comiket, which is the bi annual major anime convention out in Tokyo, or other anime conventions. Mangaka and aspirants over there tend to start very young, and they usually start by fan manga/doujinshi to advertisement publications to getting up to Jump and Shueisha. And by young, I mean by middle school. At Comiket, they tend to sell doujins with their own tables, and this is OK because they tend to limit purchases to avoid creeping up on the line of allowability. Otherwise they get normal jobs like you and me and work on their manga on their free time.

Otherwise, web hentai people I've always seen doing their own thing, and they are usually a part of a doujin circle themselves. Outside of that, I am not sure.

So no, Japanese artists do their own things, because that's kind of the perk of their own nation being more in touch with their series and properties.

Make a specific portfolio. Like super specific. Have several. I have a friend who got work for a AA game studio doing some character/costume designs for a fantasy game by duh submitting a portfolio of character/costume designs for fantasy and D&D stuff. She doesnt even have a large internet following and most professionals don't (Professional photographers i know have about 1000 followers on insta which is more than enough clients. 30k followers is for youtube personalities). But she went to art school and works super hard and turned a hobby into a job.

I also have a friend who went to art school who delivers pizza and sometimes does art work in the pizzeria. He has no drive to make a schedule, network himself, or deliver consistent and timely results for a client. Don't be him. Ask yourself if you can handle being your own boss and kicking your own ass. I know I can't and it's ok to admit that to yourself.

Just based on what I've seen on this website and even SFW videos that are furry related, they're also massive fucking consoomers too. Some of their artists will sell objectively terrible art for like $40 a pop. These people literally throw money away, its hard to judge anyone for drawing shit for them when its that lucrative.

Depends on what you want/can draw. Though all these suggestions above my post are pretty solid.

They say easiest way to get paid drawing is porn/hentai, furry art or furry porn.

Believe it or not, Tiktok was pretty good for artists to gain a following when it was new. Although, now I think it's kinda harder but still probably easier than other social media if you post once a day or every other day. Social media in general is just hard to grow on for art...

I think discord/twitch(/now youtube too I think?) emoji commissions are pretty popular too!

It's admittedly difficult to find a place to sell your art. I'm thankful that I found a good niche in mermaid animations, as well as underwater animation/art in general as that is uncommon. And, of course, the oft-quoted phrase of "sex sells".

My advice is:
1. Seek out furries and offer to do furry porn. It's gross, and you can decline to do things that you feel uncomfortable about, but you can make bank with them.
2. Show your art to friends and family. Well, maybe not the latter if you draw #1 stuff. But share what you're willing to share, and tell them that if they like your stuff, tell others, and that you're willing to do pieces if they want money and are willing to pay. Some might change their mind about interest after you mention it, but sometimes you find someone who is willing to pay you money to draw the thing they want to see.
