meanwhile at Sony
To be fair that's not really a sequel, it's more starting from scratch again. I don't blame them for refusing to give up on the property. When it comes to its film division Sony is being left behind, I'd be surprised if they gave up on the Ghostbusters brand completely.
he won't reboot anything again lol
Pretty much this. They have to puff up their chest, pretend to be a hundred percent confident in their project and secretly planning to shove Paul Feig into a locker for creating this mess.I think the sequel talk is just that, talk, keep your options open, sucker in some new investors maybe and who knows? Convince a few more people to go see the movie while you can?
It's not like they'd ever say "Well, considering how we just did, we're DEFINITELY not doing any sequels."
It's like real estate, you never admit the place you're trying to sell is a dump, you talk about the "charm" it has.
yeah i canCan you honestly think of another way they could have rebooted it?
A ghostbusters remake with Chris Pratt and Channing Tatum with the guys from 21 jump street writing/directing would hand turned this into an actual franchise with sequels that makes a shit ton of cashyeah i can
first step would have been to make a better film and not piss off most of the people who were willing to give it a chance
Can you honestly think of another way they could have rebooted it?
I think a couple of people have suggested ways of doing it in these threads, some of them even involving all female Ghostbusters.
Instead of this dumb idea of just rebooting it entirely, make it an actual sequel. You have a justifiable reason to have some continuity and bring back the original actors as the actual characters they were in the first movie, and for that matter, bring back some of the fantastic extras and minor characters, like William Atherton as Walter Peck. He could actually be an enthusiastic supporter of the Ghostbusters by now and be opposed to some prick who is just like he was in the original.
The original Ghostbusters have retired by now, and they have handed the franchise over to their successors, who JUST HAPPEN TO ALL BE WOMEN. And this is no big deal and nobody notices it as anything unusual, they're just the obvious candidates for the job because of their personal merits.
You have the original actors show up from time to time, maybe Bill Murray shows up and gives some Yoda-tier advice, and bust some fucking ghosts.
What you don't do is pointlessly insult your target audience for no reason with no possible benefit.
Why is this so hard?
Seriously, almost ANY way of doing this movie would have been better than what these morons did. Don't let tumblr direct movies.
; a reboot was always the only option except letting the series lie dead for longer.
Then they should have let it die.
Also I think that's just bullshit because why would these people who were so concerned with the sanctity of the original all appear in an absolute PIECE OF SHIT that SHAT ALL OVER THE ORIGINAL, which they ACTUALLY DID?
I bet they would have all shown up in token appearances in a sequel, because seriously, they all actually did just that in an utter piece of shit.
stereotypes are the new progressivenessI'm sick to death of the big fat obnoxious black lady archetype.
Oh HELL NAW!
OH NO YOU DIDIN!
shits old, terrible and not remotely funny any more.
Just like that fat loud black actress in the movie.
Addendum:I think a couple of people have suggested ways of doing it in these threads, some of them even involving all female Ghostbusters.

Sony's "PR strategy" pretty transparently consisted of people waving dollar bills in the faces of reviewers and roping people into making it a political statement to rate this garbage higher than it deserved.their PR strategy worked on the critics who gave it good reviews.
No, a reboot is by no means "the only option". They could make a direct sequel a hundred years from now. All they need to do is to stay within the already established continuity - they wouldn't even need the old actors or a standin for that.a reboot was always the only option except letting the series lie dead for longer.
Yeah, the sheer amount of cred Dwight Caines got from all the right people in Hollywood is staggering.I dunno, they can write it off as a "stylish artistic statement". That was the spin they used for appearing in it.
It was a blatant money grab from people devoid of originality, but their PR strategy worked on the critics who gave it good reviews. The salt from basement dwelling neckbeards gave the people involved cred with all the right people in Hollywood.
Yeah official word is that they will wait a couple of weeks and quietly kill the sequel
Paul Feig is salty as fuck and saying he won't reboot anything again lol
This is actually what I thought they were doing when I heard that a new Ghostbusters was in production. A new generation of Ghostbusters over 30 years after the events of the first movie. A shame they didn't go that route.I think a couple of people have suggested ways of doing it in these threads, some of them even involving all female Ghostbusters.
