Funny thing is that a Finnish tank museum that had the last surviving BT-42 got a lot of interest because of the anime and this scene. They had some tourists visit and the museum decided to use the attention they were getting to set up a crowdfunding project to fund sheltering for the tanks:

The crowdfunding was a success with half the funding coming from Japan. Building was finished in 2018 and the tanks are better preserved now:

anime tourism is something else. on one hand it's crazy why you would travel all the way to finland for that, otoh I got fascinating respect that something so simple can generate that kind of admiration.

Somehow we get most of the Finnish tourism to come from Asia since they think conceiving children under the northern lights will give them sons (unlike the tried and true Finnish tradition of putting an axe under the bed smh.) Our businesses have adapted to give these degenerates the oppurtunity to fuck under glass roofs to their fullest.

season stretched over 7+ years means different pacing, contrived story because they couldn't pull another love live for a third time, mashing ova + main series together changes tone and atmosphere.
sure, it's still gup where cute girls to panzer things, but like I said, imo different.

I never understood the appeal of the WW2 tank combat. Can't see shit unless you're unbuttoned (in which case you are easy pickings for any asshole with a rifle), the fighting compartment is freezing cold in winter, blazing hot in summer, always filled with engine exhaust, takes a long time to switch seats when the other crewmen are incapacitated, vulnerable to the ever present threat of the lone guy with a bundle of AT grenades unless you have very good, very close infantry support, you always have an HE loaded in the chamber right when you need an AP and vice versa. About the only people you ever have the advantage against are infantry at a distance without PaKs or other AT weaponry.

it's popular but not in that regard it attracts a whole chunk of people to laugh at on it's own. it's more an intersection of several different groups which in time might get one for each.

honestly amazed GuP doesn't have its own community watch thread yet.

What have they done to deserve one? GuP as a show has been pretty chill in terms of its fanbase and the show really isn't a huge force that could garner a fanbase that causes people to dedicate entire channels to it if only to ride the ad revenue train. And the only ones I've found that did do it are videos that make crack vids of the damn thing. There's no real sea of "GuP YouTubers" that's a real drama farm, and there's not really any prime beef from what what I've seen.

And how would that work? The anime alone is kind of an international tournament with every school representing a different country, down to having Chi-Ha-Tan representing Imperial Japan, and the All-Stars from Der Film representing the UN. So a world tournament with Ooarai representing Japan seems like just a way to add more international waifus.

All of the school ships shown are Japanese and don't represent any other nation although they do cosplay as them. Student body is Japanese with a number of foreign exchange students like Klara who is Russian. Tankery is a worldwide sport and we only seen the Japanese tournament.

I'm aware of that, but in the fanfiction I'm talking about...1. It's fanfiction. and 2. It's as you said: we've only seen tankery as it's done IN JAPAN.
