Perhaps the most mileage anime has gotten out of WW2 since Axis Powers Hetalia, Girls und Panzer is a 2012 anime in an alternative world in which there's a sport known as sensha-do, or tankery, or panzerfahren, or in another trnslation, "schoolgirls fighting in WW2 era tanks" (albeit modified so nobody dies).

The series centers around Miho Nishizumi, a new student at Ooarai Girls Academy. When her school resurrects its tankery team, she's "convinced" to join since she's the only member of the student body that knows a damn thing about the sport...and she transferred to Ooarai because the school didn't have a team to speak of.. Regardless, Miho finds herself as the commander of a new team as they fight many other schools to become the best tankery team in Japan.

Speaking of those other schools, there are many schools, some of which have their followings to show they're as popular as Miho herself. And all of these schools are modeled after different countries in terms of attitude, dress, behavior and tanks used in combat. Because...anime.

These schools are...

(centering this image has been a pain the ass, so screw it)

Modeled after Great Britian, their commander is Darjeeling, a tea drinking lady who carries herself with class.

Modeled after the good old United States of America, they're commanded by Kay, an energetic lady who seems to carry a bit of an American approach to battle.

Modeled after the Soviet Union, they're commanded by Katyusha, a shorty who can easily be seen on the soldiers of her #2 Nonna, and heard talking in the third person.

Anzio High School

Modeled after Italy, they're commanded by Anchovy, their duce. Like many commanders in this show, waifu material.

Modeled after Germany (and no, they don't resemble the Nazis in any way other than using Nazi era tanks), their commander is Maho Nishizumi, Miho's older sister. Erika Itsumi, Maho's #2, is never too far behind.
The main anime goes for 12 epsidoes, followed by a feature film, Girls und Panzer der Film, in 2015 and a six part theatrical series, Girls und Panzer Das Finale that saw its first part out of six be released in 2017. Both the anime and the film can be streamed subbed AND dubbed on Netflix, but Das Finale has never received any official release to my knowledge.

If you ask me, Girls und Panzer is some of the most fun I've had watching anime, and I'll think you'll enjoy it too.

If you want an idea of what this show contains, here's a little taste:

Panzer Vor, motherfuckers. Panzer Vor.
