The Intercept's Glenn Greenwald was assaulted by a far-right journalist whom he was interviewing at the time of the attack.
Greenwald, who has been critical of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, was interviewing VEJA columnist Augusto Nunes during a program on the radio station Jovem Pan. Things took an ugly turn after Greenwald confronted Nunes about comments he previously made about Greenwald's marriage.

Nunes previously wondered "who takes care of the children [he and husband, Brazilian politican David Miranda] adopted? That's what the Juvenile Court should investigate," according to BuzzFeed News. He also brought up "stolen messages" from law enforcement officials that expressed concern about corruption. Those messages were leaked and published in The Intercept.

Greenwald responded to those remarks during the interview saying, "We have a lot of political differences, I have no problem being criticized for my work, I criticize him too, but what he did was the ugliest and dirtiest thing I've ever seen in my career as a journalist."

He then directly confronted Nunes, "I want to know if you still believe that a judge should investigate our family, with the possibility of taking our children away from home and returning with them to the shelter, without a mother, without a father, without a family..."

Nunes countered, "He still can't identify ironies, he can't identify a humorous attack. I invite him to prove when I asked some court to do it. I just said that his companion spends time in Brasilia and he spends all his time dealing with stolen material, so who will take care of the children?"

Greenwald proceeded to call him a coward repeatedly.

In response, Nunes swung his fist at Greenwald while they were sitting, but both men proceeded to stand and get into each other's faces. Others in the room jumped in and ripped the two men.

As the men were separated, Greenwald charged back toward Nunes and threw a punch.

Iicr, Greenwald has defended Maduro and the current Venezuelan regime. Many Venezuelans are immigrants in Brazil to the point the army had to patrol and close the borders because they couldn't handle so much people, especially indigenous with so many needs and in urgent requirement of health care.

He deserved more.

Seriously, it's easy to be some dumb American with Communist delusions and come here to countries where communism had butchered thousands of our people and tell us that we don't really understand what communism is.

That's a really awful accent considering all the time Glenn's spent in Brazil.
Notice the irony here. The guy spergs about USA trying to meddle in Venezuela while he's in Brazil trying to remove the president.

As long as Venezuela releases criminals from their jails so they can run free in the continent, takes Russian and Chinese money, and allows Iran to install bases there, USA cannot keep away from them. They're the definition of a regional danger. They're training Islamic terrorists in their territory. Whenever Brazil does any of these things, then he can start talking about the need to remove Bolsonaro.

Greenwald is at least one of the saner leftists, and was a Russia skeptic from the beginning. This caused him to burn a lot of bridges with the rest of the American left, who to this day are convinced that he is alt-right or whatever because he had enough presence of mind to not drink the Mueller kool-aid.

So I can't say I hate him at all. At the very least, he's hardly the most insane person out there, as lots of people still have him beat.

I've disagreed with Greenwald on a lot of things long before Russiagate, but I still appreciate his work. He's a leftist who won't let other leftists shut him up, which makes him really rare in current day.

*sigh*

There are not sanctins applied to Venezuela by USA, only applied to members of the government, and that happened up until 2017 and, recently, to only one company. That's way, way after the crisis had already started. These did not affected their econonmy in any way.

Also,

But in the first three months of 2019, non-oil, public-sector imports rose to $955 million, up 16.5% from the same period last year and the highest quarterly figure since 2017, according to the data released earlier this month by the central bank, which does not regularly publish economic figures.

You're free to go and get your CLAP.

Lol.. almost completely blocking oil exports and blocking access to banking services is 'only sanctions against members of the government'. That's an interesting premise you've got there

Those blocks have been recently, much after the crisis started.

Also, funny you mention "medicine" being blocked when many attempts have been made to send medicine to Venezuela and the government has banned them all because they say they can manage:

There,it says that the government doesn't want Venezuela to have access to medicine. They had support for other countries and international organizations to get medicines to the country and Maduro has refused.

Here, another article of Maduro rejecting any kind of humanitarian help based on politics:

The blocking is a excuse, because Venezuela still trade with other countries and, as I mentioned above, they say their imports in the year have been great despite the blocking. I'm gonna quote it for you in case you are too lazy to read:
Government-linked entities handle the bulk of international trade in the crisis-stricken socialist country, and both imports and exports have declined dramatically since 2014, when a drop in oil prices sent the OPEC nation’s economy into a tailspin marked by hyperinflation and shortages of food and medicine.

But in the first three months of 2019, non-oil, public-sector imports rose to $955 million, up 16.5% from the same period last year and the highest quarterly figure since 2017, according to the data released earlier this month by the central bank, which does not regularly publish economic figures.

Also, notice that the reason their oil import dropped started in 2014, much before any block. They have destroyed most of their industries, only relying on oil. That's not USA's fault, or anyone's fault. That's because of bad management of a country.

lol OK neocon. Tell me, why is it a worthy use of my tax dollars to pay for Glow-in-the-darks to start a doomed civil war for the finance class in some beaner shithole? Doing business with China and Russia, instead of are greatest allies Israel and Saudi Arabia, the horror! Have fun with the inevitable refugees from that, too.

We need to stay the fuck out of there and sort out our own shit, in my opinion. Let the beaners starve, they brought it on themselves.

I always thought Greenwald might've made a decent anti-woke leftist or third positionist in another life. Unfortunately, he is a homosexual jew and will act according to his nature.

Because, if Cuba and Venezuela aren't stopped (not necessarily by USA), everbody will soon have refugees and immigrants from more people in Latin America. It's gonna be way worse than the current Syrian crisis.

If you really think it won't affect USA that Iran has a close reach to them, ok...
