So, no lie, my bestie and I were huge Goblins fans back in the day, but when the updates slowed to a crawl we lost some interest. Every so often I would go back and do a binge, amazed at how little he'd accomplished. He was good at some stuff. Some of the characters were written very sympathetically, and even though a lot of people find the style hideous, he was eventually able to convey a lot of emotion with it. Not gonna lie, you strip out some of the torture porn and insane exposition dumps, and problematic content, and you'd have something better than decent.

After the Rapey plantman fallout though, and some really really creepy prose posts where his self-insert tortures rapey plantman to death, more of his own personality started showing through, I'm convinced the guy is a dangerous combination of crazy and lazy.

Didn't know he trooned out though. I'm guessing he's either a 'lesbian' tranny of claiming some kind of bi-pan-ambi-sexual nonsense?

I am both disgusted and not at all surprised to see he trooned out, and trooned out with the faggiest fake name I've seen. And I've seen Fire's fake name.

I guess since after the implosion of Kickstarter this turned into Goblins Anonymous, so:
I've never read all of Goblins. I eventually checked it out well after the rapey part of the story (I think they were in the maze? Snake girl was with them), and didn't see any gore that was over the top, just sort of lots of 1993 mortal kombat blood. I still check on it like every year just to see what crazy shit he's gotten up to in the 4 updates he's posted since I last visited.

I never got a "creepy" vibe from Thunt like he was rubbing one out to the MurderTortureMutilation - more of an immature, autistic lack of awareness combined with hack writing. or maybe its just the art was so bad he didn't seem to be trying to make it 'sexy'. It just felt like he didn't seem to grasp the difference between writing an evil character and posting a word-for-word transcript of a witness at an African warlord's war-crimes tribunal.

But he seemed to have some quite interesting ideas and concepts, just the fucker needs an editor.

It's actually a really old and overdone idea that has almost never been done well, and Thunt's no exception. "Let's see the villain race's side of the story! Oop turns out that they don't seem so evil now!" stuff has been around for decades at the very least, without trying to dig up some classical literature examples of it or some shit. Virtually every example is just shallow bullshit where instead of actually presenting the typical, say, orc's viewpoint, they turn the orcs into a race of thoughtful, honorable noble savages while turning humans and elves into slather-faced bloodthirsty monsters, so it's less "Seeing things from a different perspective" and more "everything's flipped, turned upside-down as the Fresh Prince of Orshank". You see it in stuff like Overlord, where they supposedly presented you with the opportunity to play the evil overlord... except the first "hero" you fight is a cannibal tyrant so hey there you go.

Thunt is definitely not a good enough writer to succeed where all those other attempts failed, and really hasn't. There's never any nuance in his shit... he'll occasionally develop a character but that's really not the same thing, that's basically saying "I gave this character enough screentime that they developed a personality" as opposed to setting out to write a character with a personality from the start.

The most honorable characters in it are Priam (the king of Troy), his based son Hector, and Hector's based wife Andromache. I 100% believe Homer is the one author you can't overdo stealing from.

And I'd argue Thunt's version is in the top half. Sure he's an insane pervert who should be kept away from children (doesn't he have like three? ), but it's a disgusting implementation of "there are good and bad people on both sides" rather than "PLOT TWIST: those pretty people in primary colors are actually evil" or the absolutely execrable "too much good is bad, you know *bong hit*".

Yeah. He doesn't 'flip' the narrative. He's got good and bad people from either 'side'. There's a goblin chick who is basically hitler. And some neutral/conflicted ones to boot. He did well with characters and their dynamics. He did crap with pacing. I just can't believe how long it's taken him to tell the story. My friend and I joke about how the early Brassmoon city stuff was 13 years ago.
