I'm sure the armchair psychologists among us have had a great time trying to analyse Jay's mental state. Rather than giving my own opinion, I'm going to start the thread by briefly touching on the more popular theories that have cropped up in discussion:
Autism
Although Jay has stated he has never had an official diagnosis, there's a lot of evidence to suggest he's somewhere on the autistic spectrum. His obsessions with the Powerpuff Girls and 80s action film heroes may well provide him provide a sense or order, structure and predictability, a very common trait towards those who are autistic. He also seems to have difficulty understanding others emotions, which Jay has explained is because he sometimes feels as though he is a "cyborg", as well as some of his earlier journals where he writes frequently about not understanding why people don't think the same way he does. Jay also gets incredibly uncomfortable when confronted with a situation that is out of his immediate control or holds a level of unpredictability, which may explain his dislike for driving and his reluctance to work in a job with any level of expectation beyond his own (which are unrealistically little). I could be wrong but Jay may also have echolalia, as he uses a limited set of phrases repeatedly in both his writing and his speech (i.e. "My booming voice" and "I love a girl with some fight in her!" have been repeated frequently in his journal, IM chats and during the stream). However this could also be part of his attempt to emulate 80s action film heroes by communicating with repetitive, cheesy catchphrases.
Histrionic Personality Disorder
A lot of Jay's fantasies consist of him being the constant centre of attention. He is known for being both incredibly needy in relationships and proudly discussing private matters on DeviantArt, revelling in the fact that these discussions would provide attention and drama. Jay has shown on frequent occasions that especially in relationships he uses emotional manipulation in order to get attention, such as by claiming his partner doesn't pay enough attention to him when they've only been gone for a few hours, saying his partner's absence causes him physical pain and expressing disgust at his partner in any way altering their bodies that isn't his doing, such as make-up, tattoos etc. He's also known to over dramatise any aspect of his life, such as pretending to faint on a roller-coaster and whilst having a blood test, claiming work as a computer repair technician is a feat of monumental strength and claiming that being targeted for trolling is worse than having your pets die in a house fire (to someone who had just lost their pets in a house fire). His hair may also be a manifestation of using his physical appearance to draw attention to himself.
Psychopathy / Sociopathy
Whilst difficulty in understanding emotional and social cues could be a symptom of autism, generally Jay seems to disregard concepts of empathy and compassion altogether. Jay has frequently expressed desires of violence and control, strongly shown in his sexual preferences. He has expressed a strong desire to perform actions during sex which would cause permanent damage, such as pistol whipping, burning his partner with a cattle prod and hanging her by her vagina with a hook. Interestingly Jay has only now begun to express no desire for permanent damage during sex after a cybersex conversation where he was no longer in control and was subjected to pain, which he immediately stopped. Jay has also expressed strong disdain for animals, depicting the brutal murder of a cat in his comic with a response of apathy and proudly claiming in his stream that he previously killed squirrels. He has also expressed a strong desire to kill those he believes are deserving, the only thing keeping him from doing so is his paranoia of breaking any law. His poor impulse control and constant need for instant gratification (a possible reason why he masturbates to thoughts of torture and pain 4 times a day), as well as his unusually high self esteem also support this theory.
Paedophilia
Jay's obsession with the Powerpuff Girls could more accurately be described as an obsession towards Blossom, whom has acted as a muse for which he bases his ideal partner on. Before entering a relationship he portrayed this through his comic character Amanda, who was basically Blossom with comically drawn breasts and an obsessive sexual fascination with Jay. It's also been noted that he uses a Blossom plush doll as a sex toy. He has a strong fixation of innocence with his partners, expressing strong desires that they must be a virgin and be completely "natural" (no make-up, tattoos as such). His leaked interactions with partners also hints that he views them like children, talking to them in a very immature way and giving off a vibe that he wishes to teach them what he sees as grown up things. The most damning evidence is the infamous Christmas Journal, where he tells of tickling very young children up their shirts and implying arousal after looking at their feet.
This is literally the tip of the iceberg with Jay and I think it could be agreed that so much more could be said about this disturbed, exceptional individual. So please, share any thoughts / theories you have about Our Golden Lolcow.
