“Gone With The Wind” officially goes #1 on Amazon’s Best Selling Movies & TV list earlier this morning - Comes after HBO Max blacklists them from streaming services with a disclaimer

  • Sustained Denial of Service attacks. Paid for botnet. Service will continue to be disrupted until I can contact other providers and arrange a fix.

Holy fuck $50 for Pitch Black?

It's Blu-Ray, what do you expect? They always jack the prices of those up regardless if it's something popular or something no one has ever heard of.

Also it's got that "4K ULTRA HD" tag next to it like it's a new version of Street Fighter. That makes it even more "special" seeing it in frames higher than 30/60.

I always get the plain dvd versions cause 1. It's cheaper, and 2. A lot of people say there's really no difference in picture quality anyways. Plus DVD's seem to have more extra shit than Blu-Ray

Here's James talking about them

Lol what no? The quality difference is nuts and can actually spoil older movies because you can see wires as clear as day or just how small scale miniatures are now like Blade Runner.

Extras are the only thing DVDs are worth for but I stopped caring when stunts and effects became mostly digital.

Gone with the Wind kicks fucking ass, okay? I don't care if you guys hate the romance and shit. Despite its more offensive scenes (which are a little squirmy, not gonna lie), it's a classic for a fucking reason, a landmark piece of cinema that's not going to go away no matter how many times people try to blot it out.

I would say to those who want to get the Bluray version of their favorite movies: be careful, some BR editions have a shitty blue or green filter so everything looks weird.
The LoTR movies for example have a blue filter, Matrix has a green one.

don't forget most people are completely stupid about hooking up their gizmos
I have seen multiple people run hd stuff into something that mashes it into old NTSC composite, then feeds that into an hd tv.

The Matrix always had a green tint, even in cinemas in 1999. Unless you mean that they've upped the tint compared to the theatrical version.

Blu-Rays really don't look that much different from DVDs on my television but my ancient (by LCD TV standards) Toshiba television is only 26" and 768p. I would imagine that there's a much bigger difference on much larger televisions with higher resolution, especially if we're talking about the 4K Blu-Rays which I think are to regular Blu-Rays roughly what Laserdisc was to VHS (hence the higher price compared to regular Blu-Ray).

I still watch DVDs a lot for the simple reason that you can watch them on a laptop while, even if you have a Blu-Ray drive like I do, studios have made it next to impossible to get Blu-Rays viewable on a laptop without hooking it to an external monitor (which defeats the purpose of a laptop). Well, maybe not so much a modern laptop without an optical drive but my laptops are also pretty old.

It's the first 4K movie sold by Arrow Video I think, and it's being sold as a collector's item with a tonne of bonus features:

I'd say the price tag is quite justified.

While I think streaming services can do whatever they want with their catalogue (even if they make some really anti-consumer moves), pulling off a movie because it has objectionable content isn't just going to make people want to search for it more, it'll also be used as a political tool given the current climate. It's absolutely infuriating because I view old and classic movies as some sort of reflection of the past, to see how certain people view the world. It's like we can't just leave movies as they are.

Sorry, why do they need to remove it entirely to add "historical context"? Can't they just put some title card that says something like "This film contains outdated cultural depictions that may be offensive to modern viewers and does not represent views held by Warner Media LLC or its affiliates", and then call it a day?
